Job Summary</b></h2><div>
Sheet Metal and Tinsmith Workers are responsible for tinsmith, coppersmith, and engraving duties on locomotives, passenger cars, engines and related equipment.<br>
Pipe Fitters are responsible for replacing, installing, cutting, fabricating and inspecting all manner of hoses, piping, valves and tubing on locomotives, passenger cars and engines.</div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Duties and Responsibilities</b></h2><ul><li>
Sheetmetal work consists of both pipefitting and tinsmith duties.</li><li>
Pipefitter work consists of cutting, binding, threading, repairing and applying pipe connections to passenger cars and diesel locomotives. Also consists of layout and installation of piping for high-pressure steam in yards, shops and buildings. Pipefitter will be required to inspect/repair equipment, which will include stooping, crouching, and kneeling in confined spaces.</li><li>
Tinsmith work consists of layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of all types of sheet metal and/or their substitutes. Also includes complete air conditioning ducting in passenger cars. Tinsmith will be required to handle sheets of metal 4' x 8'.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Required Education and Experience</b></h2><ul><li>
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED or TASC) approved by a State&rsquo;s Department of Education or recognized accredited organization.</li><li>
Ability to perform all pipe installation duties including welding, and layout and fabrication work, including soldering and brazing.</li><li>
Must possess thorough knowledge of associated hand tools and sheet metal shop mechanics.</li><li>
Ability to work inside and outside in all types of weather conditions.</li><li>
Must be able to walk short distances (80-100 feet) frequently during an 8-hour shift and greater distances (up to 1000 feet or more) daily.</li><li>
