<div>General Summary

The Associate Social Media Editor works with the Social Media Editor to help implement the Content social strategy for Connecticut Public on each of its social platforms with a goal of using our journalism to expand and grow our audience, and deepen our connection with those we serve. The Associate Editor has a passion for journalism, public media, and experience in visual and digital storytelling, as well as social media strategy and tactics.

As part of the Visuals Team, the Associate Editor will work at the direction of the Social Media Editor, accepting 
and fulfilling all functions and responsibilities associated and assigned in this role. This role works cross- 
departmentally and with groups across the Content team. The Associate Editor will work as a journalist, 
leveraging the news, entertainment and information produced by the Content team across all of our social 
media platforms, and elevate original CT Public content, including news stories, radio, visuals, talk shows, 
podcasts, and initiatives such as Where We Read and Somos Connecticut. This role will help to expand audiences, reach diverse groups of people, and communicate the information in a fair,accessible, accurate way. The Associate Editor will also support the Social Media Editor with special journalism projects focused on engaging directly with local diverse groups, with the goal of expanding and informing new audiences, while leveraging social media as an engagement platform. 

Essential Functions
<ul>
<li>Assist in managing social schedules and posting engaging content to CT Public&rsquo;s social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and more.</li>
<li>Balance knowledge of social platforms and their algorithms, understanding news needs, and apply 
knowledge in a way that serves the content, not just the algorithm.</li>
<li>Edit content by reporters, visuals journalists, hosts and contributors, and produce compelling and innovative social headlines, copy, and visual posts that adhere to journalistic standards, and fit audience needs for each 
platform.</li>
<li>Engage and interact in a positive way with audiences on all social media platforms, offering helpful links or information when appropriate, and monitor comments to escalate audience feedback to various teams, as necessary.</li>
<li>Execute and provide support for all social media activity, including daily posts on core platforms &ndash; iterate and improve social media schedule and content calendar.</li>
<li>Monitor CT Public&rsquo;s social media accounts for performance on each platform, working closely with the Soc vial Media edtior to assess data, impacct, and reach.</li>
<li>React to the daily news agenda &ndash; think critically about big stories that are important to our audience in words, audio, photos, videos, graphics and more to determine best way to present information on social.</li>
<li>Recognize the various audiences and audience behaviors across all social platforms to effectively create content and stay true to CT Public&rsquo;s voice and mission.</li>
<li>Support community journalism engagement projects, including original reporting and visual storytelling in the field and in collaboration with the Social Media Editor.</li>
<li>With guidance from the Social Media Editor, edit, build out and optimize the flow and placement of all news, talk and enterprise content onto all our social media platforms. Work with the Social Media Editor to make decisions on how original CT Public stories and visual content are packaged on social accounts.</li>
<li>Write conversational copy, and create and edit clear, informational visual assets (i.e. short-form videos, photos, graphics) for all social platforms.</li>
<li>Work under the direction and with guidance from the Social Media Editor, assist in the implementation of CT Public&rsquo;s Content Social Media Strategy for each social platform.</li>
</ul>
Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Apply strong editorial and news judgement that can be applied to all social packaging, including breaking news, features, long- and short-form audio and visual content formats.</li>
<li>Be acutely aware of social media trends and how to use them effectively and intentionally for news.</li>
<li>Be aware of local news landscape, relevant issues, topical stories in and around Connecticut.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Social Media Editor and other content teams (i.e. news, talk shows, investigations, Somos Connecticut, visuals) to identify opportunities for elevating original, local content.</li>
<li>Collaborate with editors, reporters and producers, plan and edit for the most distinctive and engaging presentations possible.</li>
<li>Follow CT Public&rsquo;s Content Leaders&rsquo; direction on standards of station journalistic ethics.</li>

Working Environment 
Job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or editorial work. Final schedules are contingent on operational and production needs as determined by your supervisor. Job is based in Hartford, field work may be required. Potential for hybrid or remote options, however this is not a fully remote position.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)
<ul><li>Execute Esquire&rsquo;s social media strategy across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube Shorts, and emerging platforms
</li><li>Produce and edit short-form, social-first video&mdash;primarily on mobile&mdash;for red carpets, premieres, live events, and in-office shoots
</li><li>Write compelling, platform-specific social copy that captures Esquire&rsquo;s distinct voice and drives engagement
</li><li>Package and publish editorial content using best practices tailored to each platform
</li><li>Monitor trends, breaking news, and cultural moments to inform timely and relevant content
</li><li>Collaborate with editors, video producers, and audience teams to create engaging social storytelling
</li><li>Test new formats, tools, and platform features to expand reach and audience growth
</li><li>Track performance metrics and apply insights to optimize future content and publishing strategies
</li></ul>Qualifications (What We&rsquo;re Looking For)
<ul><li>2+ years of experience in social media, preferably within a magazine, publisher, or digital media brand
</li><li>Strong mobile video production skills, including shooting and editing with an understanding of lighting, audio, pacing, and vertical storytelling
</li><li>Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and/or CapCut, with familiarity using native platform editing tools
</li><li>Excellent writing skills with the ability to craft sharp, engaging, and voice-driven social copy
</li><li>Deep knowledge of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and emerging social platforms
</li><li>Experience covering live events, red carpets, or fast-moving cultural moments is a plus
</li><li>Familiarity with analytics and publishing tools such as SocialFlow, Parse.ly, Dash Hudson, TikTok Analytics, and Meta Creator tools is a plus
</li><li>Highly organized, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
</li><li>Passion for culture, style, entertainment, and the conversations shaping them
</li><li>Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends for live coverage
