Washes collection vehicles on a scheduled basis; hoses down thoroughly on a daily basis; washes dumpsters on a scheduled basis.7. Performs daily routine inspection and preventive maintenance as required on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the Solid Waste Supervisor.8. Keeps the Solid Waste Supervisor informed of all work-related issues and problems that may affect and/or improve the operation of their respective areas.9.  This is the entry-level class in the Solid Waste Equipment Operator classifications. This class works under general supervision, performs routine tasks, semi-skilled and/or skilled tasks in the operation of front-loaders, roll-offs, side-loaders, rear-loaders, or similar equipment, and performs heavy manual labor for collecting, transporting, and disposing of solid waste materials from residential and commercial sources. Defined Benefit Pension Plan: Normal retirement after 55th birthday, and when combination of age and creditable service equals 85; or, 65th birthday if completed at least five years of creditable service. For sworn officers in Police and Fire/EMS, normal retirement after 50th birthday, and when combination of age and service equals 75; or, 65th birthday or older with 5 years of creditable service. An annual retirement benefit equals 2.0% of salary (based on an average of the highest five years) times the number of creditable years with a maximum of 63%. Early retirement options are available and reductions may apply based on age and service. 
 
Hybrid Program: Provides the characteristics of the traditional pension plan with that of a deferred compensation plan. The deferred compensation component provides for the employee contribution to be deposited in an account directed by the member. I. Job Summary 
 
The Shred-it Route Driver is responsible for providing industry leading levels of service to clients while taking care of all customer document destruction needs, including transporting supplies and materials, safely and in accordance with company policy and all local and federal laws. This involves loading and unloading the delivery vehicle and ensuring that all cargo is safely secured before transport. 
 
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
<ul><li>Performs onsite/offsite document destruction of confidential information</li><li>
Performs pre/post-trip checks, and driver check-in on assigned truck, prior to leaving or closing for the day. Reports maintenance issues to Transportation/Dispatcher for follow-up</li><li>
Operates company equipment in a safe and efficient manner in an effort to minimize the risk of injury and equipment damage</li><li>
Complies with all local, Provincial and federal laws governing driver fitness and hours of service. Complete and maintain DOT logs when applicable</li><li>
Maintains a high level of security when emptying consoles and/or collection totes by ensuring all documents are retrieved and the consoles/containers are securely locked</li><li>
Services accounts using a hand-held device, ensuring console/containers are barcoded, locations are up to date, and the accuracy of type and quantity of consoles/containers</li><li>
Manages assigned routes ensuring customers&rsquo; confidential material collected and serviced in a timely and accurate manner</li><li>
Handles and responds to all customer problems and inquiries expediently and in the best interest of both the customer and Shred-it</li><li>
Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned</li></ul> 
III. Qualifications
 
 
A. Required Qualifications
<ul><li>3 years of Experience, preferably in driving Box Trucks and route management</li><li>
Current, personal driver&rsquo;s license (Class 1 or equivalent) with an excellent driving record</li></ul> 
B. Preferred Qualifications
<ul><li>High School Diploma or GED (accredited)</li><li>
Route Driving experience</li><li>
Customer Service experience</li></ul>
