<p></p><div><ul><li>Assists in managing solid waste core services on a day-to-day basis.</li><li>
Assists in developing and administering divisional safety programs, including conducting training programs and collecting data to prepare training reports.</li><li>
Maintains divisional accident records and compiles statistical information relative to all losses.</li><li>
Conducts various training programs for solid waste employees and supervisors in all areas of solid waste collection operations and maintenance, and recurring training for specific work safety in areas of high risk or large losses.</li><li>
Supervises all container maintenance operations for residential and commercial services, including assigned staff, container inventory, and refurbishment.</li><li>
Manages and maintains truck-mounted and handheld technology used in all collection vehicles and route types.</li><li>
Prepares, analyzes, and implements programs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of collection, disposal, and recycling services, including new technologies, methods/procedures, consolidation, elimination, reduction, and/or contracting out specific services.</li><li>
Approves and monitors collection services, resolution of citizen complaints, new services, and service delivery charges.</li><li>
Approves additional equipment, personnel, personnel reassignments, and overtime when needed to deliver effective service.</li><li>
Reviews, approves, and organizes budget projections and schedules; manages unit budget and work processes.</li><li>
Prepares reports and correspondence.</li><li>
Assigns, develops, and evaluates direct reports.</li><li>
Facilitates and fosters team development at all organizational levels.</li><li>

<p><i><b>Position Summary</b></i></p><p>Position oversees the daily operations of the Solid Waste Division in all aspects of the management and execution of the facilities and programs with direction from Chief. Position reports to Chief, Solid Waste for general supervision. Assists Chief with longer term planning and execution. Directs daily operations of Solid Waste Division, including landfill, scale house, transfer stations, and recycling program; assists with development and implementation of policies, procedures, and management controls for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the division in fulfilling its assigned mission.</p><p>2. Ability to effectively deal with regulators, officials, consultants, contractors, refuse haulers, and the general public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to work with customers, employees and supervisor to resolve problems; ability to lead and/or work as a member of a team.</p><p><i><b>Miscellaneous Position Information</b></i></p><p><b>Working Conditions &amp; Physical Requirements</b></p><p>This role is primarily sedentary in nature but may involve occasional strenuous effort, such as handling moderately heavy boxes, tools, equipment, or other materials; walking or climbing over uneven surfaces; and sitting/standing in fixed position for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted on a regular basis. At least fifty percent of a typical day will be in the field to include in equipment when necessary to train supervisors and operators. Other conditions involve working at a computer, using telephonic equipment, and interfacing regularly with internal and/or external stakeholders. Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, such as working around moving parts or machinery. Employees may require protective equipment including but not limited to boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.</p><p>Work is normally performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours, however, may require alternate work hours 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week.</p><p>Individuals appointed or promoted to a position in this class will be required to serve a probationary period of six (6) months. This position is responsible for the overall planning, organization, coordination, and management of Solid Waste Operations. Key responsibilities include overseeing the collection, transfer, and disposal of solid waste and recyclables for both residential and commercial customers, as well as the ownership and operation of a regional transfer station.</p><p><b>

About the role</b></p><p>
Under administrative supervision, the Assistant Solid Waste Superintendent is responsible for assisting with the overall leadership, operation, and management of the City&rsquo;s Solid Waste Department, including the Transfer Station, composting operations, and C &amp; D (rubble) sites. The department oversees solid waste collection, disposal, composting, and recycling (single-stream and cardboard), while managing personnel, equipment, and financial resources.</p><p>
During the in-training period, the Assistant Solid Waste Superintendent will:</p><ul><li>
Learn and support all major operational areas, including collection routes, transfer station operations, recycling, composting, and rubble site management.</li><li>
Receive direct mentorship and training from the Superintendent in leadership, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and long-range planning.</li><li>
