Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority Special Agents provide specialized law enforcement services for the Commonwealth of Virginia, enforcing criminal law and regulations of the Virginia ABC Board governing the manufacture, sales and use of alcoholic beverages.<br>

<b>Job Duties:</b><br>
<ul>
<li>Initiating, planning and conducting moderate to complex investigations, making arrests for violations of alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, fraud and financial fraud statutes, testifying in state and federal courts and serving as an Authority advocate.</li>
<li>Additional duties involve preparing and presenting disciplinary cases to Virginia ABC hearing officers and performing special assignments such as instructor, electronic surveillance technician or becoming a member of a local, state or federal task force.</li>

Under the leadership of Attorney General Raúl Torrez, the New Mexico Department of Justice serves as the chief legal authority for the state of New Mexico. The NMDOJ works to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, and the rights of all citizens are protected.

The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit is part of a multi-agency task force with a mission to locate, track, and capture internet child sexual predators and child pornographers.
<br><br>
As the central command for the ICAC Task Force in New Mexico, the Unit receives and triages all Cyber Tips and Reports made by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The Unit has a fully equipped computer lab specifically designed to provide forensic analysis to law enforcement agencies working ICAC cases and special criminal investigations.
<br><br>
In addition, the ICAC Unit is deeply invested in community engagement, and has provided internet crime prevention training to citizens and youth at community meetings, schools, and colleges throughout the state.
<br><br>
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
<br>Why does the job exist?
<br><br>
The Special Agent for the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit conducts specialized criminal investigations related to criminal violations of the New Mexico State Statutes regarding Internet Crimes Against Children such as Possession of Child Pornography, Criminal Sexual Exploitation of Children, Criminal Sexual Abuse and Criminal Sexual Solicitation of Children, and other related offenses.
<br>How does it get done?
<br><br>
Duties include but are not limited to; interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects, conferring with prosecuting attorneys, preparing demand letters, obtains subpoenas and warrant authorization or other documents to secure additional evidence from Internet Service Providers, cell phone companies, or other data storage sources. Prepares affidavits for warrants, serves warrants and searches premises to locate evidence and collecting and processing physical evidence, conducting premise inspections, conducting surveillance of suspects or locations, preparing final investigative reports of case findings and recommendation of criminal charges, testifying as a witness in a court of law, locating, subduing, searching, advising, and arresting suspects when there is probable cause, exchanging information with local, state, and federal law enforcement authorities, providing training and technical guidance to other law enforcement agencies and licensees in the agents area of expertise.
<br><br>
Further duties will include developing and maintaining working relationships with state, local and federal law enforcement agencies including NM District Attorneys for the purpose of coordinating and collecting statistical data of ICAC related investigations and prosecutions. The position will be responsible for providing comprehensive assessments of investigative and prosecutorial needs within New Mexico as it relates to ICAC investigations and prosecutions. Operate in a multi-jurisdictional environment involving cooperation with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials. Responsibilities include the management of CyberTips received from the Center National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and coordinating the assignments to investigators and other law enforcement agencies. Management of NCMEC CyberTips will include obtaining status of assigned and reporting the status to NCMEC. Provide instruction on the avoidance of victimization in computer related crimes to the general public, law enforcement officers, students and parents. Develop, and conduct training programs for law enforcement, prosecutions, probation and parole to improve NMICAC prosecution, investigations, and forensic capabilities.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, or other related field with five (5) years of experience in law enforcement, criminal investigation, white-collar or economic/financial fraud investigation. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Currently carry a valid New Mexico law enforcement certification or be eligible for certification by waiver of training.
<br>Employment Requirements
<br><br>
Incumbent must submit to and pass an extensive background investigation, drug test and psychological examination. Must be a certified Peace Officer. Must be eligible for certification by waiver of previous training in accordance with provisions of Section 29-1-10 NMSA 1978. As a safety sensitive law enforcement position, incumbent will be subject to preemployment, random, and reasonable suspicion drug testing. In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive use of computer and phone usage. Working in a law enforcement environment, potential statewide travel, exposure to law enforcement investigations to include extensive exposure to graphic photos and videos in confined workspace. Job Duties</b></p>
<p>
Under the direction and guidance of the Office of Law Enforcement Services Unit Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Deputy Chiefs, and assigned Assistant Chief, the Special Agent is responsible for conducting thorough investigations of criminal violations against or within the Department of Corrections by employees, inmates, contractors, volunteers, visitors and others, and administrative investigations of violations of Standards of Conduct, and other investigations or inquiries of serious matters involving the Department. Ensures that all assignments meet accepted professional standards, are timely and curate. Responsible to assist development and implementation of prevention activities to reduce vulnerability of the Department to criminal activity.

A comprehensive background review will include employment history, criminal records, and references. Applicants must possess a current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Officer Certification, issued pursuant to the Code of Virginia and maintained in connection with employment in a sworn law enforcement position within a public law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Qualifying agencies include, but are not limited to, the Virginia State Police, sheriff&rsquo;s offices, and municipal or county police departments. DCJS certifications issued for positions classified solely as jailer, corrections officer, or other non-sworn roles do not meet this requirement. This requirement is job-related and essential due to the position&rsquo;s statutory authority and performance of sworn law enforcement functions.<br>
<br>
Qualified candidates must have professional experience in law enforcement, criminal investigations, or security operations, supported by current active Virginia Law Enforcement certification through the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). A strong background in conducting complex criminal and administrative investigations is essential, including working knowledge of legally sound methods and techniques that meet accepted professional standards. Candidates should be well-versed in applicable federal and state laws, administrative policies, and procedures related to evidence handling&mdash;such as identifying, preparing, examining, analyzing, and preserving evidence for use in criminal cases or administrative hearings. Familiarity with court procedures and rules of evidence is required. The role demands exceptional written communication skills to produce clear, detailed, and comprehensive investigative reports, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in person. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Department leadership and staff, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and members of the public.</p>

Additional Considerations</b></p>
<p>
Candidates with extensive law enforcement experience and a demonstrated history of conducting complex investigations. Advanced training and certifications in investigative interviewing, evidence collection, and case development are highly desirable. Candidates who hold DCJS certification as a Specialized Instructor or possess equivalent advanced training in criminal investigations, intelligence operations, or related fields will be strongly considered. The ideal candidate will bring a high level of professionalism, sound judgment, and technical expertise to support the Department&rsquo;s mission in maintaining safety and security through proactive intelligence and investigative work.</p>
