Provide guidance for students in academic learning, vocational, social and leisure skills, physical development and personal hygiene</li><li>
Monitor and assist students with special learning needs in drill, practice, and study activities</li><li>
Direct students into safe learning activities and functions</li><li>
Maintain an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment</li><li>
Observe and control student behavior according to approved procedures in the individual behavior plan</li><li>
Assist in the shaping of appropriate social behavior</li><li>
Provide instruction in reading, mathematics, and other subjects according to in-service, instruction and guidance from certificated staff</li><li>
Perform a variety of clerical and record keeping activities including, student attendance and behavior records, academic and achievement records, preparation of materials, and maintaining records and supplies</li><li>

Assist with the preparation of instructional materials</li><li>
Perform student assessment activities including, administration of tests, scoring tests and written work, and maintaining assessment records</li><li>
Set up and maintain special classroom equipment and learning centers</li><li>
Operate audio-visual and office equipment</li><li>
Assure health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures</li><li>
Perform routine first aid and assist with student medical treatment after proper training</li><li>
Escort students from the classroom to resource rooms and other programs</li><li>
Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and parent conferences</li><li>
Assists with student supplementary assignments and supervise independent work</li><li>
Perform the functions of the position in an accurate, neat, and timely fashion</li><li>
Use good judgment and decision-making skills</li><li>
Tutor students individually or in groups using instructional objectives and lessons developed by certificated staff</li><li>
Assist with crisis intervention and data collection</li><li>
Support and assist in the enforcement of classroom, school and district rules including, observe, record, and chart student behavior, and implement behavior management strategies</li><li>
Assist with lifting students in and out of wheelchairs, braces, and other orthopedic equipment</li><li>
Assist staff members in positioning pupils and in rendering various forms of personal care including, toileting and diapering, dressing, undressing, bathing, and grooming</li><li>
Assist with emergency treatment of children experiencing seizures or respiratory problems</li><li>
Maintain procedure manual and documentation of specialized physical health care services and procedures</li><li>
Perform direct classroom and laboratory instruction to small and large groups of students</li><li>
Conduct task analysis of instructional objectives as determined by certificated staff</li><li>
Perform the duties of job coach or trainer in vocational training programs, and in training peer tutors under the direction of certificated staff</li><li>
Develop specialized teaching materials</li><li>
Provide remedial tutoring, identifying areas of need and using appropriate skills, strategies, techniques and materials</li><li>

Physical Requirements</b></div><ul><li>
The mental acuity to perform the essential functions of the position.</li><li>
Ability to sit at a desk, table, on low chairs, on the floor or on mats, for extended periods of time.</li><li>
Ability to see, read and distinguish colors, a computer screen, educational materials, books, and other printed material, with or without vision aids.</li><li>
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels and outdoors, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.</li><li>
Manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data on a computer, and to perform assigned tasks using both hands.</li><li>
Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may hear and understand on the telephone, in classrooms, library, multi-purpose room or outdoors.</li><li>
Ability to walk on uneven terrain, play yards and school grounds.</li><li>

Work Conditions:</b></div><div></div><div><br>
Duties are primarily performed within a school setting. Physical requirements include frequent standing, sitting, walking, and lifting. The role often requires getting up and down from the floor or low seating, assisting students with mobility, and occasionally running or moving quickly to ensure student safety. Additional physical tasks may include helping students with transfers, positioning, toileting, or use of adaptive equipment, as well as supporting students during physical activities or transitions between classrooms. Some assignments are subject to strict deadlines, especially when adapting and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse student groups. The position involves regular interaction with students and parents who may be experiencing heightened emotional states. Employees are expected to use de-escalation techniques, maintain a calm and supportive demeanor, and implement behavior intervention strategies as needed to ensure a safe and positive environment. Students may exhibit behavioral challenges, including verbal outbursts or physical behaviors such as hitting, kicking, biting, eloping, or throwing objects. Employees must be prepared to respond appropriately to these situations, following established safety protocols and behavior management plans. Employees may be required to provide both emergency and non-emergency health-related services to students, including basic first aid, assisting with prescribed medical procedures, or responding to health emergencies according to school protocols.</div>
Qualifications:

Pass a basic skills paraeducator examination in reading, writing and mathematics. This test is offered by the district as well as SLOCOE.</li><li>

<li>Providing responsive and effective crisis intervention by promptly employing de-escalation techniques, prioritizing safety, and acting as a first responder to minimize disruptions to instruction and school operations.</li>
<li>Completing thorough documentation of behavioral incidents and related reports, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies.</li>
<li>Adhering strictly to universal precautions and emergency protocols, including CPR, First Aid, and procedures for blood-borne pathogens.</li>
<li>Identifying, reporting, and addressing potential safety hazards, actively contributing to the site's safety committee.</li>
<li>Actively attending and participating in team meetings, clinical supervision, staff meetings, teacher collaboration sessions, and strategic planning initiatives.</li>
<li>Participating in professional development opportunities to stay informed about current behavioral principles, strategies, and educational policies.</li>
<li>Assisting in supervising students during school-related activities, including field trips, bus duties, lunch supervision, playground monitoring, and transportation support as necessary.</li>

<p><b>‖ Qualifications Required:</b></p>

<li>Associate's degree or higher in a closely related field of study.</li>
<li>Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a paraprofessional, paraeducator, educational aide, teaching assistant or related credential.</li>
<li>Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a registered behavior technician (RBT) credential highly preferred.</li>
<li>Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.</li>
<li>Prior experience providing behavioral instruction, guidance and/or support to children; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.</li>
<li>Highly skilled in working with children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional behavioral disorders and/or other related disabilities.</li>
<li>Well-versed in applied behavior analysis (ABA) including functional behavior assessment (FBA), positive behavior interventions and support (PBIS) and behavior intervention plans (BIP's) preferred.</li>
<li>Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.</li>
<li>Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.</li>
<li>Solid motivational skills and willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives.</li>
<li>Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.</li>
