The Certified Nurse Midwife is a member of the healthcare team who works in the independent management of women's health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, and the family planning and gynecological needs of women. The Certified Nurse Midwife practices within the Fairview health care system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the client. Certified Nurse Midwives practice in accord with the Standards of the Practice of Nurse Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives.<br>

Assess health status of women arriving at appropriate diagnosis(es) using advanced practice knowledge and skills.</li><li>
Performs a comprehensive assessment of each patient&rsquo;s health including a thorough physical examination and health history.</li><li>
Performs/orders preventative and diagnostic procedures based on the patient's age and history.</li><li>
Manages health screening and health promotion of women including disease prevention.</li><li>
Identifies health and medical risk factors.</li><li>
Identifies acute and chronic health problems.</li><li>
Appropriately orders and accurately interprets diagnostic results.</li><li>
Delegates direct and indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel.</li><li>
Responds appropriately to emergent situations.</li><li>
Develops and implements an individualized plan of care</li><li>
Establishes collaborative agreements with physician(s).</li><li>

Associate staff nurse-midwives are non-bargained for, hourly employees who work to fill in during non-scheduled and scheduled paid time off. Therefore, a consistent schedule each month is not guaranteed.</li><li>
Associate staff will be paid as following:<ul><li>
Straight time for hours worked.</li><li>
Time and a half for hours worked during holidays.</li><li>
No benefits, including professional development money. (Staff may request money for specific educational needs ? this will be given per service director?s ability to grant this request).</li><li>
Paid hour for hour for mandatory training requirements.</li><li>
Paid hour for hour for time spent at staff meetings.</li><li>
