 The Staff Scientist in the Viral Vector Facility (VVF) plays a central role in supporting the strategic goals of the Bio-Medical platform. The Scientist in the VVF will design, produce, and deliver high-quality viral vectors (e.g., AAVs and Lentivirus) to support cutting-edge research at KAUST and in the region. The scientist will optimize and scale production workflows, improve vector performance and cost-efficiency, and ensure strict quality and biosafety standards. We are seeking a highly skilled molecular biologist with expertise in viral vector engineering and production, who can translate complex experimental needs into tailored genetic tools and drive innovation in vector design and delivery.  Scientific Collaboration:
 
 Collaborate with researchers to identify appropriate viral vector systems that address key scientific questions, supporting high-impact research and publications.

This position is for a Staff Scientist to engage in biomedical studies that apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches and methods with the long-term objective of improving clinical cancer care. The training, project development, and application will be mentored by Dr. Peter Nelson and Dr. Jeff Leek, and members of their research groups. The projects will integrate high dimensional clinical data with outcomes to specific therapeutics to generate patient similars or digital twins. The studies will also develop methodology to produce synthetic control cohorts for comparative assessments against novel therapeutics evaluated in clinical trials. The project will interface with clinical and laboratory investigators involved in the management of prostate cancer, and researchers developing bioinformatics methods that exploit AI technologies in the Fred Hutch Data Science Lab.</div><div></div><div> 
The Fred Hutch Data Science Lab is involved in large, education focused initiatives and biomedical research funded by NIH grants. These projects involve delivering training materials to researchers to help catalyze their work in a scalable manner, as well as innovating new methods for understanding or treating disease.</div><div></div><div>

Primary research using AI and other statistical methods to better personalize treatment of cancer patients from large-scale data.</li><li>

The staff scientist will need to conduct most study tasks independently with minimal to modest oversight aside from project steering efforts.</li></ul>

The GTMBA is a multi-national effort to provide high-quality moored buoy data in real-time for climate research and
forecasting. This position supports the deployment and maintenance of deep-ocean moored buoys in the global tropics to provide high-quality oceanographic and surface meteorological data for monitoring, forecasting, and understanding of the world&rsquo;s climate.
Job Duties
<ul><li>Cruise Planning (25%):
<ul><li>Frequently meets with GTMBA Management to ensure project objectives are on track and well executed.
</li><li>Prepares internal operational and logistics plans, including sensor and acoustic release needs, cruise operational plan, and mooring hardware design documents based on research priorities.
</li><li>Prepares detailed cruise planning documents for distribution to foreign partners. Initiates and maintains timely planning dialogue and logistics coordination with foreign and domestic partners on various platforms including vessels operated by NOAA, National Science Foundation (NSF), chartered vessels and international partners.
</li><li>Prepares health and safety documents for sea-going staff.
</li><li>Schedules, prepares, and leads pre- and post-cruise meetings.
</li><li>Assembles mooring equipment inventories and coordinates mooring plans with PMEL Engineering Division and PMEL mooring shop.

Responsible for the successful recovery/deployment of GTMBA surface and subsurface moorings while at sea. This includes directing project staff and consulting with the ship&rsquo;s personnel in safely performing the deployments/ recovery mooring operations within the capabilities and limitations of the platform and crew.
</li><li>Lead and supervise moored buoy operations at sea during research cruises. Observe system components that are mounted on moored buoy platforms deployed from oceanographic research vessels and other large ships in a remote, deep ocean environment. Operate and maintain vessel-based oceanographic sensors, meteorological sensors, and mooring equipment.
</li><li>Planning and operational management of the GTMBA requires extensive and comprehensive experience with moored array buoy systems, including data management and field operations. The individual must have the ability to assess and make informed decisions on operational requirements that are critical to the success of the project. The work requires innovative and skillful improvisation to accommodate changing requirements that may arise as a result of programmatic shifts, changes in ship allocations, weather, and other emergencies. The field programs within the Project are international in nature and the individual must have the expertise to deal with a variety of technical, logistical, and cultural issues that develop in the execution of the Project&rsquo;s efforts. The individual must have demonstrated the ability to effectively present project objectives, plans and accomplishments to foreign and domestic research partners and have strong verbal and written skills.

Incumbent will be expected to train project personnel and international technicians and programmers in data management procedures and may supervise junior data management personnel. UCLA is part of a large consortium funded by NIH to better understand brain and cognitive development from infancy to late childhood (HBCD Project) as well as a multi-site projects (ACE) also funded by NIH focused on late-diagnosed adolescents and young adults with autism (ACE Network Project). Both projects involve neuroimaging and various behavioral assessments. Semel Institute is seeking to hire a Staff Research Associate to assist in all aspects related to data acquisition and daily lab operations for these projects.</div>

</div><ul><li>Conduct day-to-day activities related to the ACE Network projects.
</li><li>Work closely with other members of the research team and PIs at UCLA and the other participating sites to co-ordinate study visits and compliance with study protocols</li>
<li>Coordinate with center administrators to place supply orders</li>
<li>Assist investigators in the preparation of figures, posters and papers</li>
<li>Other clerical activities</li>
<li>Assist with all aspects of data acquisition for the ACE Network projects</li>
