Additional Job Description:
This position will work in the microbiology department. Once trained, this employee will work dayshift with rotating weekends/holidays.
A degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician is preferred. Applicants holding Bachelor of Science degrees in a related science such as Microbiology, Biology, or Chemistry, must have one year pertinent full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting to be eligible for state licensure. State Licensure must be obtained within 90 days of hire, 30 days preferred.

This staff personnel reports to the Sleep Lab Manager and Supervisor to provide clerical and administrative assistant support to the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center DME business. Duties include: working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions; answering a large volume of daily telephone calls; triaging and scheduling patient appointments including in some cases completing triage forms and faxing to doctors to complete the referral form; taking telephone messages from patients for the technologist and manager to call back; obtaining benefit and eligibility information and authorizations from insurance companies; performing billing procedures for patient visits; answering questions about the lab; providing parking directions; ordering office supplies on EMPAC for approval by the supervisor; coordinating with DME Technologist to update patient and staff materials. Assume overall clerical and administrative assistant responsibility for day-to-day coordination of the Sleep Disorders Center DME. The incumbent will coordinate efforts with Manager and Supervisor, DME Technologist, and other Sleep Center staff to ensure smooth operation of Sleep Center DME. Assist with cross-covering administrative assistants and providing other administrative support to the department as requested or as needed.

This person works under the direct supervision of the Manager and Supervisor, and will work closely with the DME Technologist and will perform tasks necessary to the day-to-day administration of the Sleep Lab DME. The incumbent will coordinate efforts for day-to-day functioning with the DME Technologist of the UCLA Sleep Lab DME. Work independently and as team member to ensure smooth functioning of Sleep Lab DME and ensure that work is prioritized so that tasks are completed.</div><div>

 Position Summary
 
 
 We are seeking a skilled and compassionate
 
 Sleep Technologist
 
 to join our team. The Sleep Technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to perform comprehensive evaluations and treatments for sleep-related disorders. This includes both in-center and out-of-center sleep studies, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, patient education, and oversight of sleep center operations. Candidates must be credentialed and licensed in sleep technology.
 
 
 
 Key Responsibilities
 
 
 
 
 Sleep Study Preparation &amp; Setup
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 
 Review patient history, verify medical orders, and assess individual needs.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Determine and prepare testing parameters based on protocols and physician direction.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Educate and orient patients prior to sleep studies (in-center or at-home testing).
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Calibrate and apply sensors/electrodes following industry standards.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Perform PAP interface fittings and desensitization procedures.
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 
 Sleep Study Monitoring &amp; Procedures
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 
 Conduct studies such as MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP titrations, and oxygen therapy.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Monitor and document physiological data, sleep stages, and clinical events.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Identify and correct artifacts to ensure high-quality data acquisition.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Score sleep/wake stages and events using AASM standards.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Generate accurate reports and summarize clinical data.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Administer interventions (e.g., oxygen, PAP) when needed.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan (neonatal to geriatric).
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 
 Out-of-Center Sleep Testing (OCST)
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 
 Prepare, instruct, and educate patients on home sleep testing equipment.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Download and interpret data, identifying artifacts or study failures.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Ensure adherence to AASM guidelines and infection control protocols.
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 
 Operational &amp; Administrative Duties
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 
 Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; track inventory.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Respond to patient inquiries and provide procedural education.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Adhere to HIPAA and infection control standards.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Support sleep center operations and quality assurance initiatives.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Collaborate with clinical staff and assist with training or feedback.
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Uphold professional conduct and support a positive patient experience.
 
 </li>

 Qualifications
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 
 Current Virginia license in Polysomnographic Technology
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Credentialed by a nationally recognized certification board with one of the following:
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 
 Registered Sleep Technologist (RST)
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS)
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Valid CPR or BCLS certification
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Proficiency with sleep study software and electronic documentation
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
 
 </li>
 <li>
 
 Ability to work independently and as part of a team
 
 </li>
