 POSITION: Farmworker Legal Services (FLS) is seeking a Supervising Attorney to help lead its dynamic and committed team in providing high quality civil legal services to farmworkers and animal production workers throughout Michigan. The Supervising Attorney will have the opportunity to engage in high-impact litigation affecting farmworkers, direct work on cases, supervise attorneys and other staff, oversee grant reporting and contract delivery, train staff and partners, and engage in decision-making to further advance the intended impact and theory of change for the organization. Ideally, the Supervising Attorney will be based out of our Kalamazoo or Ypsilanti (Ann Arbor) office with a flexible remote work schedule option.
 
 
 DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: Farmworker Legal Services (FLS) is a growing and nationally recognized non-profit law office and the statewide division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) that fights for justice and dignity alongside the farmworker community through our systemic, multi-forum community engagement and direct legal representation of farmworkers in their civil legal matters. FLS currently has 12 full-time staff positions based out of our Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and Ypsilanti (Ann Arbor area) offices and hires around 8 seasonal advocates each summer. FLS attorneys litigate complex wage and hour, multi-party employment, discrimination, and human trafficking cases in Michigan state and federal courts and provide a full range of civil legal services to Michigan&rsquo;s eligible population of farmworkers and their dependents in matters such as: housing, T or U-visa applications for victims of employment-based crimes, workers&rsquo; compensation, public benefits, workplace health and safety, and unemployment administrative proceedings. MAP works to advance the safety, independence, and economic stability of those most affected by poverty, racism, and other structurally oppressive systems by increasing access to justice and working for systemic solutions and has a staff of about 220 people in offices in Battle Creek, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Monroe, and Ypsilanti.  BENEFITS: Salary starts at $72,520 and increases based on years of relevant experience. MAP offers annual raises as well as a 401K retirement plan with an annual 2% contribution and 2% employer-match for eligible staff after 6 months of employment and subject to board approval. MAP offers a generous benefits package, including life, short and long term disability, health, vision, dental, fully funded deductibles, and flexible spending accounts. If an applicant does not require health benefits, they can take an annual $1,500 payout in addition to the base salary paid over the year. <div>JOB SUMMARY

The Supervising Attorney serves in a dual capacity, both as a practicing attorney and a key leader in the professional development of the legal team. In collaboration with the AFC Program Director and the Juvenile Justice Division Director, the Supervising Attorney will manage case acceptance, assignment, and team coordination while maintaining their own active caseload. Core responsibilities include conducting case reviews, offering direct guidance on legal and office practices, and ensuring comprehensive team and case coverage. Beyond practicing law, the Supervising Attorney will play a critical role in identifying performance gaps, collaborating with leadership to create targeted training plans, and implementing development strategies to enhance staff capabilities and maintain high-quality legal services. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
<ul>
<li>Maintain a reduced caseload of AFC appeals and cases in Family Court.</li>
<li>Provide legal counsel and representation in proceedings primarily involving juvenile delinquency, persons in need of supervision, child protection, custody, visitation, and termination of parental rights, foster care placement, adoption, and other proceedings as may be assigned. Representation includes, but not limited to:
<ul><li>Draft and/or review all pleadings, motions and papers.</li>
<li>Interview clients or supervise interview by other members of the Attorney for the Child program staff.</li>
<li>Conduct disclosure and investigation.</li>
<li>File motions.</li>
<li>Consult and negotiate with other counsel and, as appropriate, other parties.</li>
<li>Represent clients at all appearances, hearings, and proceedings.</li>
<li>File notices of appeal, settle orders and records and represent clients in other post dispositional proceedings before the court.</li>
</ul></li><li>Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and ethical guidelines while delivering high-quality legal services to clients.</li>
<li>Consult with and review work of the social worker on each case assigned.</li>
<li>Consult with and review work assigned with support staff.</li>
<li>Transcribe complete, accurate, and detailed contacts in all cases files through our case management system, Legal Server.</li>
<li>Conduct legal research in each case as required.</li>
<li>Maintain knowledge of legislative changes and current case law and attending CLE trainings.</li></ul> 


SUPERVISORY DUTIES
<ul><li>Assist the Program Director to provide leadership and direction to the AFC Program, including recruitment, training, and performance management.</li>
<li>Act as a liaison between Staff Attorneys and the Program Director and Division Director to ensure effective communication and coordination on case coverage and legal strategies.</li>

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &amp; ABILITIES

<li>Must be licensed, admitted, and in good standing with the NYS Bar Association.</li>
<li>Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising attorneys or legal staff in a non-profit or legal aid setting preferred.</li>
<li>Significant experience handling a caseload involving litigation, trials, and advocacy in court and administrative hearings.</li>

Position Summary
Empire Justice Center is pleased to announce an opening for a Supervising Attorney. The Supervising Attorney will represent low-income tenants in Monroe County with a variety of legal issues, including eviction defense and enforcement of the warrant of habitability via Article 7-C and 7-D claims. The attorney will provide information, advice, and technical assistance to tenants and other advocates. The individual in this position will be responsible for the above responsibilities and supervising a practice group member. The Managing Attorney of the practice group will supervise this position.

The referenced pay range/scale represents this job's estimated minimum and maximum compensation. Supervising Attorney, Tenant Advocacy (ERAP)

<div>CWJC seeks a Senior Supervising Attorney (SSA) to join its legal management team and assist in supervising the work of its immigration advocates who are based in Western Mass. The program's immigration unit handles cases involving the full range of humanitarian-based immigration law matters, including but not limited to removal defense, VAWA petitions, U and T visas, SIJ petitions, and asylum cases. The unit has a large administrative law caseload before the Immigration Courts, Board of Immigration Appeals, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Unit advocates also practice in state family court and have a growing federal court caseload. The SSA will co-supervise the legal work of the unit; assist with coordinating the training of staff and the community in immigration issues; keep abreast of legal developments in the unit's areas of practice and serve as a legal resource for the program in the area of humanitarian immigration relief; and maintain a reasonable caseload of complex and/or systemic cases. In addition, the SSA will assist in writing annual performance reviews of the unit's staff and will assist in writing grant applications and reports.
Central West Justice Center (CWJC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid (CLA). Together, CWJC and CLA have over 180 dedicated, talented staff working across multiple offices in Central and Western Massachusetts. Our core work includes effective client-centered advocacy and robust outreach to and partnerships with our client communities.
CWJC has a hybrid workplace and requires staff to work in one of its physical offices a minimum of three days per week. The SSA will be required to work at least two of those in-person days in CWJC's Springfield office. The SSA may work the other in-person days in Springfield, Pittsfield, Worcester, or Fitchburg.
QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>
CWJC is looking for a candidate who has the ability to calmly and thoughtfully work with advocates who help clients facing many challenges in a stressful, high-stakes environment.
</li><li>Must have at least five years of experience practicing immigration law, with a specialty in humanitarian-based relief.</li></ul><ul><li>
Admission to Mass. Bar and federal district court are required, or willingness and eligibility to become admitted to both once hired.</li><li>
Experience with low-income immigrant populations, ability to work collaboratively, and strong mentoring/supervision and communication skills.</li><li>
Proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese preferred.</li><li>
The candidate must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel throughout CWJC's five-county service area in Central/Western Mass and to immigration agency appointments and court hearings with clients in Massachusetts and Connecticut.</li></ul>
COMPENSATION:<ul><li>
The starting salary for this position is 95,000, which is based on a union scale and adjusted upward depending on experience.</li><li>
