<p><b>TITLE: </b>Assistant Librarian / Children&rsquo;s Librarian (Route 66 Centennial Project)</p><p><b>DEPARTMENT: </b>Library</p><p><b>REPORT TO:</b> Library Director</p><p><b>FLSA STATUS:</b> Non-Exempt</p><p><b>FUNDING SOURCE:</b> This seasonal, part-time position is funded in part by the Oklahoma Route 66 Revitalization Grant to support the Stroud Public Library&rsquo;s awarded &ldquo;Route 66 Family Adventure Hub&rdquo; project during the 2026 Route 66 Centennial celebration.</p><p><b>JOB OBJECTIVE:</b> Assist library patrons (especially families traveling Route 66) in locating and checking out materials, deliver engaging children&rsquo;s and family programming, and support the library&rsquo;s extended hours and Route 66-themed activities to enhance the visitor experience, preserve local history, and promote Oklahoma&rsquo;s Route 66 heritage.</p><p><b>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b> include the following (other duties may be assigned):</p><ul><li>Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Route 66-themed family activities, including the Oklahoma Route 66 Wooden Craft (painting magnets), Route 66 Travel Journal creation, Neon Sign Scavenger Hunt, and related hands-on crafts.</li><li>Assist with the &ldquo;Behind the Glow&rdquo; educational neon sign video presentation and distribute custom Stroud Neon Signs glow sticks to participants.</li><li>Support oral history interviews with pre-turnpike era Stroud residents and current Route 66 travelers (recordings will be shared with the Oklahoma Historical Society and Oklahoma Route 66 Association).</li><li>Conduct or assist with monthly toddler story times, family storytelling sessions (including sessions led by local author Marilyn Hudson), and other programming in the basement, lobby, or parking lot.</li><li>Promote and facilitate enrollment in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for qualifying families traveling Route 66.</li><li>Staff the circulation desk as needed, including checking materials in/out, collecting fines/fees, and handling cash transactions.</li><li>Teach library skills to school children and provide technical assistance on computers to patrons of all ages.</li><li>Mind the basement level when in use and set up/arrange meeting rooms (moving tables and chairs) for programs and events.</li><li>Work the library&rsquo;s extended 2026 hours to accommodate Route 66 travelers.</li></ul><p><b>WORK SCHEDULE (Seasonal &ndash; 2026 Centennial Period):</b> The library will operate on the following extended schedule during the grant-funded period:</p><ul><li><b>Monday &ndash; Friday:</b> 9:00 a.m. &ndash; 8:00 p.m.</li><li><b>Saturday:</b> 11:00 a.m. &ndash; 8:00 p.m.</li></ul><p>Applicants must be available for either morning or afternoon shifts (or both) and Saturdays. Job Goal: </b>The Library paraprofessional is a person trained and skilled in the areas of technical services who provides support to the School Librarian in maintaining the effective operation of the school library. They should possess excellent communication, customer service and clerical skills, as well as a strong interest in working with young people.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
Education:</b> Post high school education preferably in the fields of libraries and/or education.</p><p>
