<div>MAJOR FUNCTION:
The Department of Emergency Medical Services Emergency Medical Technician (DEMS/EMT) provides prehospital care and/or transport to individuals of sudden illness or injury in the designated service and hospitals areas of the DEMS system. The DEMS/EMT will provide inter-facility transport to those individuals needing movement between healthcare facilities as directed. The DEMS/EMT will provide appropriate mutual aid assistance when requested by adjacent services when appropriate.
The EMT demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all ages, inclusive of neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Additionally, the EMT demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to access data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age-specific needs. 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education &amp; Experience:<ul><li>
High School Diploma or equivalent required.</li><li>
Preference will be given to those with prior work experience.</li></ul>
Certification/Licensure:<ul><li>
The employee will be a certified Emergency Medical Technician as recognized by the New Jersey State Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services, as defined by N.J.A.C. Chapter 40.</li><li>
Additionally, the employee will maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (American Heart Association).</li><li>
Additional certifications (PHTLS and PEEP) are preferred.</li><li>
Must possess a valid driver's license, in good standing.</li></ul>
Position Responsibilities<ul><li>
Provides prehospital care and/or transport to patients of all ages in accordance to the standards set forth by the Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum, the guidelines of the American Heart Association, the American College of Surgeons, the New Jersey State Department of Health - Office of Emergency Medical Services (Chapter 40 of the New Jersey Administrative Code) and DEMS Department Policy.</li><li>
Obtains a patient history and physical examination including the measurement of vital
</li><li>signs, auscultation of heart and lung sounds, and the performance of a basic neurological exam.</li><li>
Performs trauma assessments in given patients, following the guidelines set forth by the
</li><li>American College of Surgeons, Prehospital Trauma Life Support program.</li><li>
Appropriately manages a compromised airway, using manual methods, oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal airways.</li><li>
Appropriately ventilates and oxygenates patients who require intervention using bagvalve-mask ventilation, and other basic oxygen administration and ventilation devices.</li><li>
Appropriately applies the Automatic External Defibrillator. Performs defibrillation as is
</li><li>recommended by the device, within accepted regional protocols.</li><li>
Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and obstructed airway management techniques
</li><li>to the standards of the American Heart Association.</li><li>
Performs all basic life support skills as required under N.J.A.C. 8:40 including but not
</li><li>limited to, immobilization techniques, splinting and bandaging and appropriate obstetric care.</li><li>
Appropriately assists patients with approved pharmacological agents.</li><li>
Performs field triage and assumes incident command functions in appropriate mass
</li><li>casualty situations, implementing incident command system plans and utilizing mutual aid as needed.</li><li>
Appropriately utilize Advanced Life Support resources.</li><li>
Appropriately documents all EMS dispatches including, but not limited to, completed BLS calls, refusals of care and recalled/canceled incidents using the current format for
</li><li>charting.
</li><li>The EMT shall report to work on-time and in appropriate uniform. Vehicle checks shall be done at the beginning of each shift and shall include proper accountability of all keys and equipment. The shift report shall be appropriately documented by the on-coming crew in a timely fashion.</li><li>
The EMT shall ensure completion of Physician certification statements, Medical Necessity
</li><li>forms, and all billing and transport documentation as needed.</li><li>
The EMT shall carry out appropriate shift duties as assigned or directed.</li><li>
The EMT shall carry out any other essential function as indicated by the DEMS
</li><li>management team.</li><li>
Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to recognize patients in pain while in the patient
</li><li>physical presence and through hemodynamic signs and symptoms during chart review.</li><li>
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the various populations served by the
</li><li>Department of Emergency Medical Services and respects cultural and social disparities
</li><li>while ensuring the continual treatment and care of the individual.</li><li>

As needed, the Interfacility Transport EMT will function within the free-standing Emergency Departments and the main Emergency Department. While working in the Emergency Department, the Interfacility Transport EMT will provide quality care to patients under the direction of a Paramedic or RN, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of hospital.</li><li>
The Interfacility Transport EMT will perform all duties identified in their job description, approved Medical Protocols, and departmental policy. Skills will be validated by competency assessments under the License of the Interfacility Transport Medical Director.</li><li>
The Interfacility Transport EMT will report to the Chief of Interfacility Transport Operations. They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. POSITION SUMMARY:</div><div>
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Department leader, the Patient Care Support Technician (PCST) will provide patient handling (lift/turn/transfer) assistance in designated departments at Enloe Medical Center. The PCST will provide patient transport at the Esplanade site to/from/between units, testing areas, ED and/or Surgery as assigned. The PCST will be proficient in the use of Enloe Medical Center patient handling equipment and will work alone, with other hospital personnel to perform scheduled and non-scheduled patient lifts, turns, transports, and transfers. The PCST will assist in patient handling/transport equipment management, including cleaning and ensuring the equipment is available and in proper working order for use. The PCST will provide instruction on use of the patient handling equipment to general nursing staff as appropriate. The duties of the PCST will be carried out in a customer service-oriented fashion; recognizing their important contribution to patient satisfaction.</div><div></div><div>

Must demonstrate technical competence, excellent communication skills and sensitivity for the hospitalized patient/family. Will work with other staff and must respond to frequent calls in a timely manner. Must be able to train staff in the use of patient handling equipment. Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Strength assessment and functional capacity evaluation is required prior to employment offer. Job Summary and Qualifications</h5><ul><li>
The Interfacility Transport EMT will operate on the EMS Transport Services&rsquo; Team. The primary duty of the Interfacility Transport EMT will be to assist the Paramedic in rendering safe and effective treatment and transport of patients on the Interfacility Transport Services&rsquo; ambulance. The Interfacility Transport EMT will respond to Interfacility Transport Call-Center requests, coordinate with other healthcare providers, and facilitate transport appropriately.</li><li>
As needed, the Interfacility Transport EMT will function within the free-standing Emergency Departments and the main Emergency Department. While working in the Emergency Department, the Interfacility Transport EMT will provide quality care to patients under the direction of a Paramedic or RN, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of hospital.</li><li>
The Interfacility Transport EMT will perform all duties identified in their job description, approved Medical Protocols, and departmental policy. Skills will be validated by competency assessments under the License of the Interfacility Transport Medical Director.</li><li>
The Interfacility Transport EMT will report to the Chief of Interfacility Transport Operations. They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. The Interfacility Transport EMT will attend meetings, education opportunities, and in-services as required by departmental policy, and contribute to the growth and development of their self and the Interfacility Transport Services&rsquo; Team.</li><li>
The Interfacility Transport EMT will maintain good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff.</li></ul>
What you will do in this role:<ul><li>
Operate emergency medical vehicle and responds to calls for aid in emergent situations.</li><li>
Evaluate patient condition to establish the right course of treatment.</li><li>
Provide a variety of emergency medical treatment to injured, sick, or incapacitated persons.</li><li>
Perform invasive procedures under adverse conditions.</li><li>
Manage non-medical situations such as crowd control and protecting the valuables of a patient if necessary.</li><li>
Lift and transport patients, ensuring patients remain stable during transport.</li><li>
Communicate patient data and condition to professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility.</li></ul><h6 class="jobSectionHeader">
What qualifications you will need:</h6>
Associates Degree in Emergency Medical Services/Paramedic or a Certificate of program completion in Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedic) is required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

 South Carolina Driver&rsquo;s license &ndash; Must be active and in good standing</li><li>
 South Carolina EMT license required.</li><li>
 BLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider issued card required

EVOC must be obtained within 60 days of employment</li></ul>
