The holder of this position will be a senior attorney handling a wide range of civil litigation matters on behalf of City-County agencies, with a focus on more complex or high-stakes matters that require significant professional experience and/or subject-matter expertise. The primary responsibility of a senior litigation attorney is to represent the City-County and related agencies in civil litigation matters in state and federal court. The City-County is involved in a diverse array of litigation matters, including federal civil rights suits, tort claims, contract disputes, prisoner litigation, appeals at the state and federal level, and administrative and regulatory matters. Senior litigation attorneys handle all facets of complex civil litigation. On many cases, the holder of this position will assume the role of the primary attorney. This role representing our public agency clients includes preparing complaints, answers, and other pleadings; researching and filing motions and briefs; handling discovery and depositions; judicial hearings; settlement negotiations; and trial advocacy. Front-line litigation attorneys benefit from the assistance of more experience co-counsel and supervisors in many cases, but should expect to have immediate responsibility for handling a diverse, challenging caseload. As a senior litigation attorney, this position holder will take responsibility for lawsuits that are highly sensitive in nature, involve significant potential financial liability, implicate complex legal issues, or involve complicated discovery and case management challenges. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. As the State&rsquo;s law firm, the OAG provides exemplary legal representation in diverse areas of law. Lawyers in the Administrative Law Division (ALD) represent dozens of state agencies in court defending the interests of Texas on a variety of issues fundamental to people across the state. The work is exciting, and our lawyers manage their own dockets as first chair. Applicants may either work in the Austin office or at an OAG regional office in Houston.</p><p>
ALD is seeking an attorney who has experience in administrative law, or is willing to learn, and is willing to represent state agencies in state and federal district and appellate courts. This position involves handling enforcement matters, including suits to enjoin unlicensed activity and for civil penalties, and defensive matters, including administrative appeals, rule challenges, ultra vires claims, and defending the OAG in cases arising under the Public Information Act. This position will also involve assisting state agencies in responding to non-party subpoenas and may involve providing general counsel assistance to state agencies.</p><p>

Represents state agencies in state and federal district and appellate courts in matters involving judicial review of agency orders, enforcement proceedings, actions challenging agency rules and statutes, open records litigation, and non-party subpoenas; may serve as general counsel to state agencies</li><li>

Assistant Attorney General III:</p><ul><li>
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent</li><li>
Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D.</li><li>
Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas</li><li>
Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and eligible to practice law in Texas by start date.</li><li>
Experience: Two years of full-time experience working as an attorney</li><li>
Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings; and of state and federal laws, regulations, and rules relevant to administrative law</li><li>
