Job Summary

Our Truck Service team is comprised of nearly 3,000 highly skilled technicians and spans coast to coast. With over 280 locations across the country, TA Truck Service has a solid foundation and a forward-thinking vision. The Truck Service Assistant General Manager provides vital support to the General Manager in leading the marketing and operations functions of the Truck Service department. This individual assists in leading technicians through troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy duty trucks and trailers in a professional and accommodating manner. The Assistant General Manager helps ensure we are returning every traveler to the road better than they came!

In this role, you can expect to:
<ul>
<li>Be a leader and inspire your team to meet and exceed company performance standards and improve the potential of the Truck Service department (i.e. fast and friendly customer service, good product knowledge, up-beat atmosphere, etc.)</li>
<li>Develop a trusting atmosphere that is conducive to receiving feedback from team members and guests; coach and performance manage staff according to company policy</li>
<li>Recruit, hire, train and retain high-quality team members according to company guidelines and create a culture where team members feel respected and recognized for their achievements</li>
<li>Assist in leading technicians through troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy duty trucks and trailers in a professional and accommodating manner</li>
<li>Conduct visual inspections to ensure that all products and services are available</li>
<li>Help achieve financial objectives through effective management of people, product, service and facility processes, including a focus on the revenue and profit components</li>
<li>Adhere to safety standards and abide by standards of operation. Follow company guidelines on vendor relationships</li>

Pay Range

$50,000.00 - 55,000.00 per hour

Position Overview
The Truck Service Assistant General Manager is a key leadership role supporting the General Manager in running a busy Truck Service Center. You will help lead technicians and service advisors, ensure fast, high-quality repairs, maintain safety and compliance standards, optimize shop efficiency, and contribute to revenue growth through parts, service, and tire sales in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.This hands-on position is ideal for a motivated leader with solid technical knowledge of heavy-duty truck repair, proven team management skills, and a strong focus on customer service and operational results.

Requirements 
Key Responsibilities<ul><li>
Assist the General Manager in overseeing all Truck Service Center operations, including service bays, parts inventory, and customer interactions.</li><li>
Support technicians with troubleshooting, diagnostics, and timely, high-quality repairs on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and related equipment.</li><li>
Help recruit, train, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of diesel technicians and service staff.</li><li>
Enforce strict safety protocols, environmental regulations, company policies, and industry standards (OSHA, DOT, etc.).</li><li>
Monitor shop productivity, workflow, repair turnaround times, and customer satisfaction to drive continuous improvement.</li><li>
Assist with parts and tire inventory management, cost control, and vendor relationships.</li><li>
Contribute to revenue growth by identifying upselling opportunities for preventive maintenance, parts, and additional services.</li><li>
Handle customer concerns professionally, resolve issues quickly, and build loyalty with professional drivers and fleet operators.</li><li>
Support scheduling, labor management, and shift coverage to ensure reliable 24/7 service availability.</li><li>
Track key metrics (sales, margins, efficiency, safety) and collaborate on initiatives to improve performance.</li><li>
Promote truck service offerings and help increase utilization across the Travel Center.</li></ul>
Qualifications<ul><li>
3&ndash;5+ years of progressive leadership experience in truck service, diesel repair shops, heavy equipment maintenance, or travel center truck care (preferred).</li><li>
Strong technical knowledge of heavy-duty truck and trailer systems, diagnostics, and repairs.</li><li>
Demonstrated success leading and developing technical teams in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.</li><li>
Customer-focused mindset with the ability to handle pressure and deliver exceptional service.</li><li>
Experience managing parts inventory, controlling costs, and working with shop management systems.</li><li>
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.</li><li>
Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.</li><li>
Valid driver&rsquo;s license with a clean record; CDL preferred. ASE certifications or manufacturer training a strong plus.</li></ul>
