Job Description</h1>
Primary Duties &amp; Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Performs ultrasound examinations per scanning protocols, correcting patient history with examination and presents study to physician for examination while adhering to patient schedules.</li><li>
Assists physicians with procedures, providing sonographic guidance during process, obtains necessary supplies and equipment and monitors patient needs assisting physicians with patient support.</li><li>
Teaches ultrasound procedures and techniques to visitors in the department such as residents, students, fellows and new sonographers and enhances own professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and conferences.</li><li>
Maintains documentation as required including patient files, performs data entry and completes paperwork needed for procedures/processes.</li><li>
Develops film through automatic processing, monitoring darkroom supplies and equipment.</li><li>
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.</li><li>
Performs phlebotomy and injections when required.</li><li>
Assists with maintaining supplies and equipment.</li><li>
Assists clerical staff with front desk support when needed.</li></ul>

Essential Functions<ul><li>

Identifies patients by using two patient demographic identifiers. Reviews physician orders for the procedure to be performed. Checks for appropriate clinical information and expected date. Checks orders for procedural contraindications. Performs all Ultrasound procedures using independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings. Analyses sonograms, synthesizing sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Imaging quality is acceptable by quality control standard to include all protocol requirement. Stays abreast of organizational, affiliate and departmental changes/updates by checking email on each shift.</li><li>
Explains procedure to patient and introduces self and identifies department. Greets patients professionally. Guides patients to appropriate areas. Ensures patients are in correct area for their procedure. Informs patients and their family members of all delays (including estimated wait time). Maintains patient and their family's comfort as best as possible (warm blankets, extra pillows, etc.) Arranges for interdepartmental transportation service, using correct area ID&rsquo;s. Transporting patients if necessary; especially patients to and from the radiology observation area and/or the emergency department.</li><li>
Obtains appropriate supplies and prepares room for patient. Maintains a sanitary and organized environment. Stock work area with linens/supplies as needed, reporting voids. Disposes of used supplies, soiled linen, trash and bio-hazardous materials according to hospital policy. Maintain proper disinfectant of the endovaginally transducers. Remaining knowledgeable about equipment that is required for each exam and must be proficient with all equipment in the department. Patient flow is controlled for most efficient use of equipment.</li><li>
Complies with departmental downtime protocols. Charges procedure and supplies when exam is completed. Adds charges when appropriate. Assists in maintaining an empty list of outstanding charges, investigates and / or reports, and explains reason for charges listed as outstanding. Help troubleshoot improper charges and assist in getting them added in a timely manner. Assist in getting ultrasound cases read when a dictation is not found.</li><li>
Resolves scheduling conflicts with other healthcare departments. Seeks to promote intra, inter, and external communications.</li><li>
Maintains ethical standards of relationships and communications. Assures the relieving shift has received hand off communication about the patients prior to staff leaving the work area. Communicates information and follows through on instructions received from the radiologist, radiology physician assistant and / or fellow sonographer(s).</li><li>
Operates the PAC&rsquo;s system appropriately and verify studies before sending to be read. Verify case is available and complete with necessary comments, measurements. Checking hourly and / or at the end of the shift for exams that need to be read are seen by radiologist. Assures that all appropriate consents are signed (scanned to medical records).</li><li>
Familiarizes self with, and compliantly incorporates, all HIPPA mandates of the Department of Radiology and of the Prisma Health System. Follows Prisma Health guidelines in regard to e-mail, voice mail, and Internet communications. Maintains paper and cartridges and calls help desk. Faxes reports when requested. Reports equipment problems to appropriate personnel and, when applicable, records confirmation numbers in appropriate logbook. Keeps passwords current.</li><li>
Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations. Monitors conditions in the department that may hinder or compromise patient care. Notifies appropriate persons in regard to unsafe conditions (electrical, fire, chemical, equipment). Be alert to and aware of unauthorized persons in the ultrasound department. Such persons are to be challenged as to their identity and purpose for being in the department. This applies to all unknown persons irrespective of uniform dress or official identification badges.</li><li>
Mentors newly hired sonographers in the departmental policies and procedures. Instructs sonography students in methodology of departmental procedures and protocols. Participates in supervision of students / volunteers assigned to the sonography department. Evaluates / documents student progress as per protocol of academic institution. Communicates with clinical instructors and/or department heads as necessary. Facilitates medical student observations. Performs quality checks on sonograms. Recognizes issues, makes recommendations for corrections. Demonstrates excellent skills in independent judgement and critical thinking. Demonstrations knowledge and skill to troubleshoot complex studies. Assists other sonographers with complex studies that require a higher skill level. Able to troubleshoot problems including but not limited to PACS and ultrasound equipment.

Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Imaging, Allied Health Certificate/Diploma or a minimum of one year

Registration in at least one of the following areas of sonography is required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or registry eligible. 
 
Registry preferred within two years after hiring. 
 
If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is required. 
 
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.

The Ultrasound Clinical Account Specialist (ULS CAS) is accountable to provide technical and clinical product support to health care providers including Electrophysiology (EP) physicians, Interventional Cardiologists (IC) and laboratory staff for electrophysiology diagnostic and therapeutic catheters and systems &ndash; with an emphasis on the AcuNav&trade; and SOUNDSTAR&trade; catheters - to enable practitioners to perform advanced cardiac ablation and interventional procedures respectively.
The CAS is responsible to build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with physicians &amp; EP laboratory staff in order to identify and foster interest in new products or product indications to grow and develop the company&rsquo;s product and technology utilization. The ULS CAS directly partners with a Regional Business Director, Territory Managers, EP CAS, Field Service Engineers and Field Management to ensure alignment and coordination of activities to meet business objectives.
As the Ultrasound Clinical Account Specialist, you will:
<ul><li>Provide expert clinical product and technical assistance and training to EP/IC physicians and staff on the effective use of AcuNav&trade; and SOUNDSTAR&trade; catheters in EP and IC procedures.
</li><li>Provide expert clinical product and technical assistance and training to physicians and EP Lab Staff on the effective use of electrophysiology systems and catheter equipment (e.g., The CARTO&reg; System and appropriate software modules including CARTOSOUND &trade;, CARTOMERGE&trade; and the Stockert RF generator) during case procedures within an assigned geography, and in a manner that leads to meeting and exceeding business goals.
</li><li>Educate customers on all electrophysiology products to optimize effective usage by providing technical and clinical information and in-service training. Shares best practices to increase value for customers.
</li><li>Use consultative selling techniques to identify potential sales opportunities within the account.
</li><li>Create awareness of electrophysiology solutions and facilitates Territory Sales Manager (TM) contact with the key decision makers to drive incremental business.
</li><li>Maximize customer case support capability through proper planning and scheduling techniques.
</li><li>Drive collaboration and maintains consistent, open lines of communication across the assigned responsibilities with internal partners including regional teams/Pods (i.e. TMs, EP CAS and other ULS CAS), as well as support personnel (i.e. Marketing, FSE, RBD).
</li><li>Drive collaboration and maintain consistent, open lines of communication with external partners.
</li><li>Develop and share best practices with US Field Sales and Service colleagues and internal partners and develop and grow mutually beneficial customer relationships within and beyond the EP/IC lab, including, but not limited to physicians, nurses and technicians, clinical and hospital administrators and staff.
</li><li>Stay current on company products instructions for use (IFU), best practices and technical troubleshooting, as well as relevant scientific clinical literature and new product information.
</li><li>Prioritize and appropriately respond to requests in a high stress environment and maintain composure and problem-solving focus during stressful interactions.
</li><li>Engage in diagnostic dialogue with multiple internal and external business partners and stakeholders, and formulate solutions based on dialogue and input gained during session.
</li><li>Provide mentoring for new electrophysiology commercial team members as requested.
</li><li>Perform other duties assigned as needed.
</li></ul>Required Qualifications:
<ul><li>A minimum of a bachelor's degree, or 4 years of relevant professional work/military experience
</li><li>A minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical echocardiography lab
</li><li>Must have and maintain certification as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in adult or pediatric echocardiography.
</li><li>Must have and maintain advanced clinical ultrasound and echocardiography knowledge of technology, advancements and the business landscape.
</li><li>Maintain clinical knowledge of healthcare industry, disease states, and therapeutic and institutional trends.
</li><li>A valid driver's license issued in the United States
</li><li>Will be required to maintain advanced clinical knowledge of cardiac ablation and cardio imaging, technical knowledge of EP technology, advancements, and the business landscape.
</li><li>Maintain clinical knowledge of healthcare industry, disease states, and therapeutic and institutional trends.
</li><li>The ability to travel related to this role is required. Must be willing and able to travel up to 40% overnight locally, regionally, and nationally, sometimes on short notice.
</li><li>Position requires sitting for extended periods of time, working in a hospital laboratory setting, attending live patient cases, and wearing protective gear (i.e. lead aprons), and willing to work variable hours to meet patient needs
</li><li>May be required to lift up to 60 lbs.
</li></ul>Strongly Preferred:
<ul><li>Electrophysiology/Cath Lab or EP/Cardiovascular Device Industry experience.
</li><li>Maintaining at least one of the following industry certifications &ndash; CEPS (IBHRE), RCES/RCIS
</li><li>Experience working with highly complex technical systems and/or working in a critical patient care setting.
</li><li>Effective and timely communicator with co-workers and all levels of patient care team.
</li><li>Self-starter who performs well with autonomy and can be flexible in a dynamic work environment.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$83,000.00 - $133,400.00
