JOB SUMMARY:</p><p>
The ED Unit Coordinator utilizes interpersonal and organizational skills to provide an efficient working environment. This includes accurate processing of patient registrations, prompt transcription of patient treatment orders, processing charges, utilizing good telephone etiquette, handling inquiries diplomatically and maintaining confidentiality. The ED Unit Coordinator also maintains and processes the medical record, maintains the ED log, orders supplies and communicates effectively with co-workers and ancillary services. The ED Unit Coordinator will also be cross-trained to the switchboard operator position which is reflected in this job description.</p><p>
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:</p><p>
The Emergency Department is a Level III facility according to the guidelines of the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. The six bed unit is open 24 hours a day with at least one physician on duty at all times and a roster of on-call physicians and specialists available within thirty minutes. The patient population includes patients of all ages, and care provided ranges from definitive treatment of non-urgent, urgent and emergent medical/surgical conditions to stabilization and transport of the critically ill or injured. Birthing Center nursing staff are available for consultation or to assist in the care of neonates, infants and obstetrical patients.</p>

The Medical Surgical unit is in search of a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Unit Coordinator (UC) in White 8.<br>

White 8 is a 27-bed adult general medicine inpatient unit, located in Boston, MA. The unit serves patients from culturally diverse backgrounds and geographic areas that present with acute and complex medical problems. Patients are generally admitted to our unit from the Emergency Department or as a transfer from one of the intensive care units.

Job Summary</b></p>
Summary<br>
Provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff in an inpatient unit, functioning as the liaison between the patient, visitors and the clinicians. Expected to effectively organize priorities, complete tasks on time and to manage confidential patient information. Responsible for partnering with nursing to coordinate the day-to-day patient flow including communication to key players regarding patient admissions, discharges and transfers. Also expected to provide outstanding services for every customer interaction. Actual job duties may vary by department. This position does not require Patient Care.<br>

<ul><li>Performs clerical and other duties to assist in the general administration of the floor or unit.
</li><li>Greets and interacts with patients, families, visitors and coworkers in person and via communication tools in a professional manner.
</li><li>Receives, prioritizes, organizes and manages information at the central nursing station, and throughout the unit.
</li><li>Schedules consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments.
</li><li>Enters into electronic medical record accurate and timely information about admissions, discharges and transfers to facilitate efficient patient throughput.
</li><li>Contacts ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services and supplies; tracks status and location; uses designated process for identifying and facilitating repairs.
