Job Description
 
The United States Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced and motivated attorney to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Division, focusing on Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) matters.
 
ACE involves filing and litigating civil actions on behalf of the United States to recover government funds lost to fraud or misconduct and to impose penalties for violations of federal laws, including those related to health, safety, civil rights, and the environment. ACE cases often involve complex factual and legal issues and may have parallel criminal and civil components.
 
As an AUSA in the Civil Division, you will play a key role in enforcing federal civil laws that safeguard the public interest. You also will manage a diverse and active docket that may include cases involving personal injury, employment discrimination, immigration, prisoner litigation, environmental enforcement, and challenges to government policies or actions.
 
Responsibilities include: 
Conducting civil investigations and developing cases in coordination with federal agencies.
 Managing discovery, including written discovery, depositions, and expert witnesses.
 Engaging in motion practice and oral argument.
 Negotiating settlements and preparing cases for trial.
 Trying cases in federal court and handling appeals.
 
Civil Division AUSAs are expected to exercise sound judgment, manage a high-volume caseload efficiently, and work collaboratively as part of a team dedicated to upholding federal law and protecting the interests of the United States.

Qualifications

Job Description
 
Assistant US Attorneys located in the District of New Mexico prosecute a wide variety of federal crime, breaches of national security, child exploitation, public corruption, transnational organized crime, and violent crime. The positions currently being filled will investigate and prosecute cases involving illegal immigration, illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings, and targeting the Cartels and Transitional Criminal Organizations designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).

Job Description
 
Overview of the United States Attorney's Office - Southern District of California The Southern District of California (SDCA) is one of the largest U.S. Attorney's offices in the country with one of the largest caseloads. This office prosecutes federal crimes and defends the interests of the United States government in civil cases. SDCA encompasses San Diego and Imperial Counties and includes a branch office in Imperial, California.
 
Duties of Criminal Assistant United States Attorneys The Criminal Division is organized into three sections: General Crimes, Organized Crimes and Special Prosecution. (See the San Diego U.S. Attorney's office website https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdca/criminal-division for a detailed description of each section). The General Crimes Section is comprised of four units: Intake, Fast Track, three Trial Teams, and the Sentencing Unit. Most Criminal AUSAs begin their careers in General Crimes. General Crimes handles a large volume of reactive cases that arise from policing the 141-mile-long border between California and Mexico, six Ports of Entry, and the roughly 70 miles of coastline stretching from the U.S./Mexico border to the northernmost tip of San Diego County. Such cases commonly include illegal entry and reentry, drug importation and smuggling, and alien smuggling. Aside from their reactive cases, prosecutors in the section also handle firearms-related matters, drug distribution, child exploitation, fraud, and other prosecutions. General Crimes prosecutors try a large number of cases and conduct proactive investigations using a wide range of investigative tools and pursue matters involving undercover operations and confidential sources. Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $84,461 to $195,100 which includes 33.72% locality pay.

Job Description
 
The U.S. Attorney's Office is currently seeking to fill Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) positions in the Civil Division. It is an opportunity to litigate a broad range of cases involving significant, complex issues on behalf of the United States in federal court. Working in the Civil Division, you will be part of a dedicated team helping to enforce federal civil laws that protect life, liberty, and property.
 
If selected, the individual will be working on land condemnation matters and related cases involving the border with Mexico, as well as immigration enforcement matters, issuing warrants, defending asylum and passport cases, and general civil litigation matters.
 
Responsibilities will increase and civil assignments may become more complex as your training and experience progress.
 
Please be advised the Southern District of Texas is advertising this position in all AD grades from 21 to 29. The grade is generally determined based on the number of years of professional Attorney experience the applicant possesses. The advertised salary range corresponds to the specified grades.
 
Qualifications
 
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
 
United States citizenship is required.
 
Preferred Qualifications: Strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate critical case-related issues, high-volume courtroom experience, outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with other AUSAs, support staff, and investigative agencies, and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. Courtroom experience, including first-chair jury trials, is preferred. Successful candidates will be computer proficient, capable of doing their own legal research and writing, and self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings.
