The Team:</b></p>
<p>
Upstart&rsquo;s Borrower Experience (BX) team is responsible for building and evolving the borrower-facing servicing experience across web, mobile, and AI-powered channels. The team focuses on reducing borrower friction, improving payment success, and enabling clear, self-serve paths for borrowers post-origination.</p>
<p>
As a Software Engineer at Upstart, you will work across full-stack systems and AI-powered surfaces to deliver intuitive borrower experiences. You will design and build scalable solutions that help borrowers understand their options and take the right actions while contributing to a cohesive and trusted servicing experience.</p>
<p><b>
How you&rsquo;ll make an impact</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Design and deliver borrower-facing features across web, mobile, and AI-powered experiences to improve self-service outcomes and payment success</li>
<li>Translate servicing workflows into intuitive, scalable product experiences that reduce friction and inbound contact volume</li>
<li>Build and maintain full-stack systems integrating backend services with modern frontend frameworks</li>
<li>Drive experimentation through A/B testing, analytics, and observability tools to improve borrower outcomes</li>
<li>Partner with Product, Design, Analytics, and Engineering to deliver high-quality solutions</li>
<li>Contribute to architectural decisions that unify systems into a cohesive borrower experience</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Minimum Qualifications</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent) + 3 years of experience</li>
<li>3+ years of professional software engineering experience building scalable web and/or mobile applications</li>
<li>Proficiency in one or more programming languages and modern development frameworks</li>
<li>Experience designing and building APIs, microservices, and distributed systems in a cloud environment</li>
<li>Experience delivering projects spanning multiple systems or engineers</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Preferred Qualifications</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience building or integrating LLM-powered or agentic systems</li>
<li>Familiarity with experimentation platforms and analytics tooling</li>
<li>Experience developing customer-facing financial or fintech products</li>
<li>Knowledge of modern frontend frameworks and deployment platforms</li>
<li>Experience working across multiple teams to deliver cohesive user experiences</li>
<li>Ability to design systems with reliability, safety, and explainability considerations</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Position location</b> This role is available in the following locations: Remote</p>

Travel requirements</b> As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions&rsquo; cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.</p><br>

<div><p>At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location&ndash;with our &ldquo;digital first&rdquo; philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
