<p>
The Criminal Court program provides a safe reception center and various services to assist survivors and victims of crime navigate through the Criminal Court. The program provides counseling, crisis intervention, case management services, advocacy, information and referrals and practical assistance to survivors and victims of crime with an overall goal of promoting survivor safety and reducing the impact of victimization.</p>
<p>
The Coordinator is responsible for providing holistic support services to victims of all crimes. This included counseling and crisis intervention to assess the needs of victims and to help with the development of safety plans to address immediate risks and concerns. This plan may include the provision of in-person or telephone counseling; emergency assistance such as money for transportation; assistance with an Office of Victim Services (OVS) application; providing information and referrals, and follow-up services; and providing assistance with obtaining an order of protection, restitution, and other criminal justice remedies. The Coordinator will advocate on the client&rsquo;s behalf with public entitlement programs, schools, employers, civil legal attorneys, and other community-based organizations, and coordinate and collaborate with the OVS Vocational Rehabilitation Unit and the New York Civil Legal Network to ensure that victims are receiving a comprehensive response. The Coordinator will also assist clients with applying for a New York City Housing Authority emergency housing transfer as an intimidated victim or victim of domestic violence; provide assistance, information and support to clients around securing safe, appropriate housing through available subsidies; or access other available resources in the City that suit the individual&rsquo;s needs to help maintain housing stability in their current residence. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist clients with direct services such as registering for Victim Information Notification Everyday (VINE) and SAVIN (Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification Network); making referrals for shelter stay; assisting with relocation; and referring for lock replacement.</p>
<p><b>
Responsibilities:</b></p>
<ul><li>Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provide case management services, counseling, and crisis intervention to victims and survivors of crime;</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provide court orientation, criminal justice advocacy, accompaniment and support;</li></ul>

</li><li>Assists victims with applying for Crime Victim Compensation benefits through the Department of Labor and Industries, which includes identifying and notifying crime victims of the availability of compensation and assisting them with application forms and procedures.

</li><li>Maintains close contact with Deputy Prosecutors, paralegals and other office staff in order to notify victims and witnesses of case status and scheduled events.

</li><li>Maintains records and statistics on cases handled, services provided and volunteer hours donated for periodic reports.
</li><li>Coordinates travel arrangements for victims and witnesses for trails with the Court Administrator&rsquo;s Office, including processing Auditor&rsquo;s warrants for witness fees and travel expenses.

</li><li>Assists in writing and publishing a newsletter, brochures and training materials that are distributed to victims, volunteers and community agencies.
</li><li>Facilitates bi-monthly Violent Crime Victims Support Group.
</li><li>Coordinates annual Crime Victim Rights Week activities.
</li><li>Recruits and trains volunteers to assist in the Adult and Juvenile Criminal Departments and Courthouse Information Booth.

</li></ul><p></p><p><b>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
</b></p><ul><li>Associate&rsquo;s degree from an accredited college or university degree in criminal justice, communications, counseling, social sciences or closely related field.

</li><li>May substitute work experience for up to two (2) years of college course work.

The District Attorney's Office is responsible for attending court and conducting all local criminal prosecutions. The District Attorney is a State Constitutional Officer when prosecuting crimes defined under State Law. Advises and provides support for victims in order to reduce their stress and anxiety by keeping them informed of the status of cases, explaining criminal justice and police procedures, and being available to respond to their questions and concerns regarding the criminal justice process.</li><li>
Prepares victims of crime for their participation in the criminal justice system by educating them on the criminal justice process and the various steps involved, escorting them to court and community resource agencies for assistance, and providing reassurance when having to face a defendant in court.</li><li>
Establishes relationships and maintains a list of community referrals, service agencies and law enforcement agencies.</li><li>
Keeps current of and interprets rules, regulations, and policy regarding state victim reimbursement, restitution programs and crisis response.</li><li>
