Th</div><div><div>is is a standard wildland fire management position description intended for use in the Klamath Tribes Wildland Fire Management program. The employee serves in a field fire management organization as the Assistant Crew Leader of Wildland Fire Module (WFM). This position is at the full performance level.
A WEM is composed o f a minimum of 10 personnel with a mission of wildland prescribed fire, cultural burning, and fire suppression. The WMs are a highly skilled component of the national wildland fire management program. WMs provide an organized, mobile, and skilled hand crew for prescribed fire, cultural burning, wildfire suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, and hazardous fuels reduction. This resource is available for national and international wildland fire suppression, prescribed fire, and other emergency all-risk assignments with cooperating agencies.
This position is in an organization having a firefighting mission, and is in an established career path. Prior firefighting experience, as gained by substantial service in a primary firefighter position or equivalent experience outside the Federal government is a MANDATORY PREREQUISITE for incumbents of this position.

roject management duties require different and unrelated processes and methods such as coordinating the work of the crew with the fire and fuels management program; property, procurement; training and instruction; the implementation o f fuels management projects; the preparation of work plans, and the preparation of prescribed burn plan segments. These projects have well established administrative requirements, procedures, methods, and timeframes.
The employee is responsible for the leadership of a WFM that is subject to dispatch to any part of the United States or foreign countries following mobilization standards. Incident Management Teams typically use WMs i n the most critical portion o f the fireline and/or for complex firing operations and expect these crews to operate in a variety of intense and constantly changing conditions.
The employee&rsquo;s primary responsibility on incidents and prescribed fire projects is to be aware of environmental influences and fire behavior and make judgements and adjust tactics as conditions change. Complex variables such as weather, fuels (type and condition), topography, fire behavior, management objectives and resource protection concerns, strategies and tactics, resource availability and capability, employee and public safety, etc., must be considered by the incumbent in making critical decisions under pressure during emergency situations.
The complexity of the work is reflected in the interagency coordination required, the number of people involved at all levels of the program, and the intricacies of managing a balanced program.

Fire Suppression<ul><li>
This position is working as a wildland firefighting engine leader supervising three wildland firefighters. It directs the use, safety, operation and maintenance of a four-wheel drive wildland fire engine complete with 400-gallon water tank, various pumps, chainsaws, communication equipment, and hand tools. This position develops and implements a daily routine and is responsible for training, scheduling work projects, reviewing time and activity reports, equipment mileage and maintenance logs, preparing performance evaluations and recommending disciplinary actions for engine and crew. This position will participate in the interviewing process for fire staff and make recommendations on the hiring of new exempt firefighters.</li></ul>
Forest Health<ul><li><div>
Prescribe Fire Implementation and Support: Conduct site fuels and fire effects data collection, unit preparation, assist with burn plan writing, community outreach, and Rx burn implementation support to include firing, holding, burn boss. provide assistance to partners for prescribe fire planning and implementation. Serve as Prescribe Fire lead for burn activities on and off DNR state trust lands. Write and/or review Prescribe Fire Burn Plans and conduct and contribute to prescribe fire field monitoring.</div></li><li>
Fuels Mitigation: Provide non-commercial thinning and slash abatement, and commercial and non-commercial project assistance in coordination with Service Forestry, Federal Lands, or State Lands staff. Conduct piling and pile burning on all lands, under the approval of the landowner and an approved Prescribe Fire Burn Plan or burn permit. Provide support and capacity for walking and flagging fuels treatment areas.</li></ul>
Wildland Fire Training<ul><li>
Assists with instruction of required NWCG 100 and 200 level training, L.C.E.S. Refresher training, and Operator Safety Training to the public and contractors. Assist with wildland fire training to federal, state, county, city, and private industry personnel. Assist with or lead in-house district training courses assigned under the direction of the supervisor. Elements include safety, equipment usage, fire behavior, fire suppression strategy and tactics, aircraft support, origin identification and protection, and the Incident Command System. Participates in training to maintain qualifications and for various fire agency personnel.</li></ul></div>

Incumbents may work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, or evenings.<ul><li>Duties involve hiking, lifting, bending, and carrying heavy loads in</li></ul>mountainous terrain on steep slopes varying between 30 to 90%. Must be able to regularly lift 65 lbs or 1/3 of their total weight unassisted. Ability to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, and climb. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Ability to work at considerable heights. May work in extreme weather conditions, from the low teens of winter to summer high desert temperature's over 100 degrees. Must display the ability to show good judgment and safe work practices during shift lengths of 16 to 24 hrs. for a 16-day period. Ability to participate and lead in a daily physical training program consisting of 30 to 45 min. of cardiovascular challenge and 15 to 20 min. of strength training exercises. Ability to tolerate exposure to extreme weather conditions, heat, fumes, smoke, pressurized water, and chemicals.<ul><li>All licenses and certifications are required to be kept current and maintained</li></ul>for continued employment.<ul><li>Applicants will be required to undergo a background investigation prior to</li></ul>being considered for employment.<ul><li>Applicants will be required to pass a thorough medical examination which</li></ul>may include, but not be limited to, a physical agility test prior to appointment and for continuing employment.<ul><li>May work in and around aircraft such as helicopters.</li></ul>Paid Time Off, Longevity, Holiday and Sick Leave (amount negotiable DOQ): <ul><li>6 hours per month of Sick Leave.
