General Summary
The Work comp Claims Adjuster II is responsible for timely and accurate management of workers&rsquo; compensation claims with moderate medical and indemnity benefit exposure, including litigation.
This opportunity will require working west coast hours (M-F 8am-5pm PDT)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
<ul><li>Completes initial contacts to obtain necessary additional information, verify coverage, determine compensability and develop of plan of action. Completes and maintains accurate claim system data as it pertains to work comp insurance claims.
</li><li>Analyzes case facts to establish timely and accurate case reserves using knowledge of medical disabilities and related costs, as well as judgment of extent of disability.
</li><li>Provides timely and appropriate customer service within established best practices. Maintains ongoing professional communications with all internal and external customers.
</li><li>Accurately evaluates and pays benefits in compliance with statutory and company procedures and guidelines. Files appropriate state forms, as needed.
</li><li>Proactively coordinates and monitors medical treatment to continue to move the claim forward. Uses resources, internal and external, to contain costs and manage exposure.
</li><li>Reviews and analyzes legal exposures. Collaborates with defense attorneys to manage legal issues. Proactively mitigates exposure to litigation, prices up claims for settlement and works within authority to resolve claims.
</li><li>Regularly reviews caseload and proactively takes action to guide claims efficiently and effectively to closure.

Requirements
<ul><li>2 - 5 years&rsquo; work comp claims adjusting or insurance experience.
</li><li>Excellent communication and customer service skills and knowledge of an imaged environment.
</li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of workers&rsquo; compensation laws and ability to adhere to statutes, regulations and company policies and practices, as well as related claim management procedures/protocols.
</li><li>Self-motivated with excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize.
</li><li>High school diploma or equivalent required.
</li><li>Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.</li></ul> 
Certification

 The Claims Associate provides quality assistance to adjusters at all phases of the claim lifecycle to drive the claim to timely conclusion. Supports the success of the organization through interactions with agencies, policyholders, and employees. This individual will handle incoming calls and mail for the claims department and facilitate tasks and processes to aid the adjuster to process claims accurately and efficiently.
 
 
 
 Essential Tasks/Major Duties

 Respond to inquiries from policyholders, claimants, injured workers, and other stakeholders regarding claim status, receipt of payment or bills, and other claim-related questions.

 Obtain and verify information by gathering missing or incomplete details from relevant parties, including policyholders, claimants, witnesses, and external vendors, to support accurate claim processing.

 Assist with claim documentation by preparing and submitting require state filings, closing documents, and other administrative support requests on behalf of adjusters.

 Draft and distribute correspondence to policyholders, claimants, injured workers, or agents in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

 Maintain accurate claim records by entering data into the claims management system and ensuring all documentation is complete and up to date.

 Coordinate external vendors by engaging appraisers, attorneys, and contractors, to support the claims process.

</li></ul>PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: To be oriented and trained as a new industry professional. This role begins with a comprehensive 4-week concept-based learning and professional training program, followed by a dedicated onboarding experience before entering the on-the-job phase. You will be assigned a mentor and manager that will support and guide you on your career journey and be equipped with the foundational skills needed for a successful career in claims adjusting. While in the program, you&rsquo;ll have the opportunity to grow and advance within the industry.

</li></ul>ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES INCLUDE
<ul><li>Attendance and completion of designated claims professional training program.
</li><li>Adjusting various levels of workers&rsquo; compensation claims under close supervision, which includes:
</li><li>Processing and responding to incoming mail, emails and other claim related documents according to status of the claim.
</li><li>Communicating effectively with injured workers, insureds/employers, medical providers, attorneys and carrier representatives, primarily through telephonic, video conference and email.
</li><li>Thoroughly investigating new and existing claims by gathering relevant information including medical records, employer reports, and witness statements. Investigating employer/employee relationships, policy verification, coverage and any potential for subrogation issues or fraud indicators.
</li><li>Determining coverage, compensability and appropriate benefits in accordance with jurisdictional guidelines and carrier program requirements.
</li><li>Documenting claims files and properly coding claim activity. Preparing detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations.
</li><li>Administering claim benefits i.e., indemnity and medical benefits, through maintenance of calendared claim-related action items, ensuring state compliance.
</li><li>Participating in virtual and/or in-person meetings, claim reviews and business functions as needed for educational training, claim discussions and various meetings.
</li></ul>QUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirement &ndash; High School Diploma or GED.

As required by law, Sedgwick provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is $27.69/hr. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other additional voluntary benefits.
