<p>The Writer/Editor plays a central role in shaping and sustaining the intellectual voice of the Yale School of Architecture. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications &amp; External Affairs, this position supports the School&rsquo;s flagship publications&mdash;including <i>Perspecta</i>, the Yale Architectural Journal&mdash;as well as other annual, semesterly, and strategic print and digital publications. The Writer/Editor ensures that the School&rsquo;s ideas, research, and design culture are articulated with rigor, clarity, and distinction across print and digital platforms. Working in close partnership with the Associate Director of Communications, Content Development &amp; Digital Media Strategy, the Writer/Editor reports on events and School news and manages the production of the School&rsquo;s books, magazines, and digital publications. <p></p><p><b>Editorial Development &amp; Content Creation</b></p>
<ul><li>Write, edit, and commission content for the School&rsquo;s major publications, including <i>Constructs</i> and other annual print and digital initiatives.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Communications &amp; External Affairs to shape editorial vision, thematic direction, and long-term publishing strategy.</li>
<li>Develop feature essays, faculty profiles, alumni updates, research spotlights, and critical texts that articulate the School&rsquo;s intellectual priorities.</li>
<li>Translate complex architectural scholarship and design research into clear, compelling narratives for both specialized and broader audiences.</li>
</ul><p></p><p><b>Publication &amp; Production Management</b></p>
<ul><li>Manage editorial workflows from pitch to publication, including manuscript development, substantive editing, line editing, and proofreading.</li>
<li>Coordinate with faculty editors, student editorial boards, contributors, graphic designers, copy editors, printers, and distributors to ensure timely production.</li>
<li>Oversee permissions, image credits, captions, and rights management for photography and archival materials.</li>
<li>Review layouts and proofs to ensure accuracy, narrative coherence, and alignment with institutional design standards.</li>
<li>Maintain production schedules and track contracts and deliverables in collaboration with School administration.</li>

<li>Identify opportunities for secondary publishing and content amplification across digital platforms.</li>
<li>Contribute written scripts, captions, summaries, and narrative framing for video, podcast, and multimedia initiatives.</li>

Ensures consistent look and tone for all department communications, including written content, website and social media. 2. Media Relations. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives. Identifies opportunities to work with other the departments, university publications and the Office of Public Affairs to develop and publicize stories. 3. Content Creation. Assesses the University faculty inventions and student startups for newsworthiness and create compelling news and public relations content. Creates engaging, dynamic content for the public, including press releases, blog articles, website updates, newsletter articles and social media. 4. Outreach. <div><p>The Church magazines offer editing, writing, and design internships three times a year. We are currently hiring for positions during <b>September&ndash;December (Fall). </b>The internship is <b>40 hours a week </b>for the four-month period. Medical benefits are offered. Position is located at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, UT, and interns must be able to come into the office on a regular basis.</p></div>
<br><div><p>The YA Weekly intern helps plan and create content for a global young adult audience. Assignments include reviewing and editing submissions and other manuscripts, writing articles, working with authors, interviewing young adults, helping with social media content, and participating in staff meetings and discussions for planning and development of monthly themes. Writing, rewriting, and editing skills will be assessed using the applicant's portfolio.</p></div>
<br><div><p>Applicants for these internships must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university, or they must have recently finished a degree from an accredited college or university (within one year of beginning their internship).
</p><p>Applicants must also be available for video conference interviews.
</p><p>Applicants who are working toward an editing minor or are taking classes with an editing/writing emphasis are preferred. Other qualifications include the following:
</p><ul><li>At least one semester of college-level editing or writing experience, such as for a literary journal, in a writing lab, or on a newspaper staff
</li><li>Strong writing, revising, copyediting, and proofreading skills
</li><li>An understanding of digital publishing, SEO practices, and digital marketing strategies

You will interview inspiring youth from around the world and write their stories for the rest of the Church to read, manage several departments for each issue, and write original articles. In addition, you will select and edit submissions, proofread each magazine issue, and help shape ideas for future print and digital articles. Your creativity and skills are essential as you are considered an equal member of our fun and lively team.</p></div>
