Assists patrons in using the computerized catalog to locate materials
</li><li>Develops knowledge of the branch collection as well as collections at other locations to efficiently and effectively provide accurate information to fill the patron's needs</li><li>
Assists patrons in use of public computers including word processing, internet searching, and use of online databases</li><li>
Maintains order and safety in the library</li><li>
Follows established policies and procedures in performing all functions</li><li>
Assists the Head of Community Engagement in parish-wide programs and initiatives</li><li>
Fully conducts reference interviews with patrons seeking information.</li><li>
Provides backup support at the branch for circulation and adult reference duties when short-staffed.</li><li>
Creates an environment in the children's and teen's area, which provides for enjoyable and convenient use of library resources</li><li>
Maintains current lists of shelf reading assignments in Youth and/or Teen areas.</li><li>
Ensures that the youth area and information desks are kept clean and orderly.</li><li>
Creates attractive and current displays and decorations for youth service area.</li><li>
Plan and conduct branch-level youth services programming for parish youth aged 0 to 17 under the direction and supervision of the Head of Community Engagement and Branch Manager.</li><li>
Works with other youth librarians and coordinates to plan shared programming and events that may be held at multiple library locations.</li><li>
Plans and conducts a weekly story time following set guidelines.</li><li>
Provides outreach services to area daycares, preschools, schools, after-school programs, camps, and other community groups as needed.</li>
Compiles program statistics and submits them according to library procedure.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in any field with 2-3 years of library experience with job duties and responsibilities related to working with youth and youth programs.

Bachelor's degree in a field relating to youth, such as Early Childhood Education, Education with 1-2 years of related library experience.</li></ul>
OR

Job Overview: The vision of the IRC Seattle Youth and Education Program is that youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds have the skills and resources necessary to pursue a future of opportunity. The program advances this vision by providing educational and enrichment opportunities that support school-aged youth in recovering missed learning, adjusting to new school environments, developing English language proficiency, and building positive community connections. 
The Youth Program Specialist will support virtual spring and summer programming by delivering 2&ndash;4 virtual classes per week and providing essential administrative and program support. Core responsibilities include enrolling students, sending program reminders, ensuring students have required materials, contributing to program reporting, and performing other duties as assigned. The specialist will work closely with the Senior VRISE Program Coordinator to ensure high-quality virtual learning experiences for newcomer elementary-aged youth.
Major Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Support IRC&rsquo;s Youth Program Coordinator in the planning, preparation, and facilitation of the afterschool VRISE and VSRISE programs.</li><li>
Support the planning and lead large and small group activities and lessons in English literacy, grammar, art, and social-emotional learning.</li><li>
With support from the Youth Program Coordinator, develop assessment methods to collect robust data and evidence of program effectiveness. Lead implementation of assessments with virtual elementary programs.</li><li>
Facilitate program outreach and enrollment by calling or meeting with families at school buildings or events to explain IRC&rsquo;s Youth and Education Programs, answer questions, and assist families in completing program enrollment forms and providing eligibility documentation.</li><li>
Maintain regular communication with teachers and parents about program activities and projects, such as email newsletters with a brief description and highlights of activities completed in program. Work with teachers and/or parents if students have specific learning needs.</li><li>
Provide academic support and guidance for newcomer students at partnering schools during the school day by either leading small pull-out groups, or by providing push-in support during large group classroom instruction.</li><li>
Create safe and healing learning spaces and build supportive relationships with newcomer students utilizing a trauma-informed approach to support students&rsquo; academic success and social-emotional development.</li><li>
Lead ETO data entry and data analysis for elementary virtual reading programming</li><li>

Qualifications<div> 
Preference may be given to candidates 21 years of age and a high school diploma or GED.</div><div>
Six years of paid working experience with troubled or at-risk youth; six years of full-time education or a combination of education and experience to equal six years. A valid Utah Driver's License.</div> 
Qualifying work experience: Paid work at any JJYS facility, Utah State Hospital, Utah State Developmental Center, private residential youth programs, alternative schools, juvenile probation/ parole, Law enforcement, or programs that work with at-risk or delinquent youths. 
 
Non-qualifying work experience: Volunteer work with youth and unpaid experience
