Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Youth Advocate provides direct, individualized support to youth ages 8&ndash;18 enrolled in CAPC&rsquo;s trauma-informed, culturally responsive Family Services program. The role focuses on mentoring, emotional regulation, violence prevention, case management, and school re-engagement to reduce youth involvement in firearm-related violence and strengthen positive developmental outcomes.
The Youth Advocate works in close collaboration with the Family Advocate as a team, ensuring coordinated support for both youth and caregivers. 2. Youth Assessment &amp; Goal Planning<ul><li>

Collaboratively develop individualized youth service plans aligned with program goals and coordinated with family service plans.</li><li>
Regularly review and adjust goals to support measurable progress and responsiveness to changing needs.</li></ul>
3. Mentoring &amp; Skill Development<ul><li>
Provide structured one-on-one mentoring in settings most appropriate to the youth (home, school, or community), focused on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, communication skills, and problem-solving.</li><li>
Facilitate discussions and activities that promote self-awareness, resilience, leadership, and accountability.</li><li>
Reinforce nonviolent coping strategies and safe decision-making in high-risk situations.</li><li>
Deliver structured, evidence-informed curriculum with youth, guiding them through skill-building lessons focused on trauma recovery, emotional regulation, communication, conflict resolution, and positive decision-making. Ensure fidelity to the curriculum while integrating lessons into individualized youth service plans and reinforcing real-life application.</li></ul>
4. Violence Prevention &amp; Risk Reduction<ul><li>
Identify and address risk factors associated with youth involvement in firearm-related violence.</li><li>
Support youth in developing personal safety strategies and peer boundary-setting skills.</li><li>
Promote alternatives to violence through positive peer engagement, extracurricular involvement, and community-based activities.</li></ul>
5. School Re-Engagement &amp; Academic Support<ul><li>
Support youth in improving school attendance, participation, and academic motivation.</li><li>
Collaborate with schools, when appropriate, to monitor progress and address barriers to engagement,
</li><li>Assist with school engagement, including attendance monitoring, academic mentoring, and participation in IEP, 504, and SST meetings; empower families to self-advocate as appropriate.</li></ul>
6. Family &amp; Caregiver Collaboration<ul><li>
Maintain consistent communication with the Family Advocate to ensure coordinated service delivery.</li><li>
Support caregiver involvement in youth goals while respecting youth voice and confidentiality guidelines.</li><li>
Participate in joint family meetings when appropriate to reinforce consistency between youth and caregiver supports.</li></ul>
7. Case Management &amp; Resource Linkage<ul><li>
Connect youth to community resources such as tutoring, recreational programs, workforce development, mental health services, and pro-social enrichment activities.</li><li>
Provide warm hand-offs and follow-up to ensure successful engagement with referred services.</li></ul>
8. Documentation &amp; Reporting<ul><li>
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of contacts, progress notes, service plans, and outcome measures in accordance with funding and agency requirements.</li><li>
Track progress toward measurable outcomes related to violence prevention, emotional regulation, and school engagement.</li><li>

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<ul><li>
Education:</li></ul>
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in social services, child development, psychology, education, or a closely related field preferred, not required.
Experience:<ul><li>
Minimum of one year of relevant experience working with children, youth (ages 8&ndash;18), and families in supportive, mentoring, case management, or community-based roles.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for engaging and supporting youth in building strengths, resilience, and protective factors.</li><li>
Experience implementing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, or evidence-based programs, including curriculum delivery, is highly desirable.</li><li>

Position Summary
AmeriCorps EXL offers a meaningful opportunity to support students' academic growth and personal development while being part of a dedicated team making a lasting impact in schools. Students are at the heart of our work. We are seeking proactive, adaptable, enthusiastic, and dedicated AmeriCorps EXL Mentors to support the academic and social emotional development of students in local area schools of Napa, California. We partner with schools to identify students who would benefit from a positive, adult role model. EXL Mentors play a key role in leading Active Recess activities with students. Each Member is placed at one school site upon hiring to serve for the entire school year (commuting among school sites is not a daily requirement.)
Program Overview
The goal of the AmeriCorps EXL program is to provide comprehensive support to students. All students at the school site benefit from the support of organized, collaborative games and conflict resolution during recess and lunch. Students in need of additional supports will be assessed and assigned targeted services in literacy or math tutoring and/or placed in a social emotional mentoring group.
Essential AmeriCorps Duties
Active Recess:<ul><li>
Active Recess: Structured and organized activities facilitated by adults in order to encourage students in games/sports while building conflict resolution skills during the core day and after school.</li><li>
Members are assigned a daily game that they facilitate and engage with students, focusing on supporting positive student behaviors.</li></ul>
 Academic Tutoring:<ul><li>
Working with students who are academically below grade level in literacy and/or math skills.</li><li>
Tutoring: Lead daily 30-minute academic tutoring sessions with students 1-to-1, in pairs, or in small groups at least 4 days a week.</li><li>
Students will attend tutoring for half of the school year.</li><li>
Lesson plans are created and implemented by the Mentor and/or provided by the teacher or curriculum.</li></ul>
Mentoring Services:<ul><li>
Mentors will work with students who need additional support in skill development, relationship-building, and personal growth.</li><li>
Lead 30-minute mentoring sessions with students 1-to-1, in pairs, or in small groups; one to two sessions per week.</li><li>
Mentors will support the same students throughout the course of the school year.</li><li>

Expanded Learning Support:<ul><li>

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Queens Community Justice Center, launched in 2007, runs a diverse portfolio of programs for justice-involved youth, young adults and their families. Programming includes alternative-to-detention programs and leadership, clinical, mentorship, workforce development, gender responsive and family support initiatives. The Justice Center incorporates evidence-based methods for working with high-risk youth, including positive youth development and restorative justice principles, into its programming. Ultimately, the goal of the Justice Center is to provide off-ramps from the justice system, to help participants lead a more meaningful life, and to increase public safety.
The Queens Community Justice Center is seeking a Mentor, Arches Program. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the mentor will be responsible for facilitating group mentoring and interactive journaling sessions for participants in the Department of Probation funded Arches program. Arches is a neighborhood-based transformative mentoring services program for young adults on probation between the ages of 16 and 24 who reside in or adjacent to Jamaica, Queens.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:<ul><li>
Facilitate Interactive Journaling sessions focused on skill development and goal setting;</li><li>
Provide one-on-one mentoring support to participants;</li><li>
Provide program participants with additional support in achieving Individual Achievement Plan goals as set by Department of Probation (DOP) probation officers;</li><li>
Work with the Program Coordinator in organizing and facilitating a mentor support group;</li><li>
Ensure thorough and accurate file-keeping and reporting on progress and compliance of participants;</li><li>
Input data to ensure proper tracking of clients and measure program success;</li><li>
Participate in regular staff and team meetings to coordinate program needs and objectives;</li><li>
Provide enrollment and administrative coverage when necessary;</li><li>
Attend evening and weekend community events when necessary;</li><li>
Assist in special events and collaborate on larger QCJC projects as necessary;</li><li>

Qualifications: High school diploma (or higher) with at least 2 years of experience in youth development work and/or mentoring with court-involved populations. The mentor position requires a personable and creative self-starter who can accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be credible messengers, specially trained adults from Jamaica with backgrounds and characteristics similar to the population served, including life experience, cultural competence, and criminal justice system familiarity. Prior experience with positive youth development, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapies preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally competent manner that is responsive to the needs of urban youth required. Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suites, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom is preferred. Additionally, experience utilizing CRM or case management software is preferred. Individuals directly impacted by the criminal legal system are highly encouraged to apply for this position. Additional preferred qualities for these positions include deep connection with the Jamaica community they will be serving and ability to speak English and Spanish.

Part-Time OpportunityYouth Counselor (1 Position)Location: Central Library (41-17 Main St, Flushing, NY 11355)OnsiteDuties and ResponsibilitiesAs part of the Community Service team and with a focus on positively engaging teens during out-of-school hours, Youth Counselors mentor and counsel teens, and facilitate programs with a focus on socio-emotional wellness, relationships, arts and culture, career exploration, and planning. Under the direction of the Teen Site Coordinator or Assistant Community Library Manager, Youth Counselors will work to create a youth-focused environment where teens can learn, explore, and socialize.This position will develop and conduct workshops in multiple areas of youth development, including but not limited to, career planning, literacy, technology, socio-emotional wellness, and creative arts. This position coordinates programming with community-based organizations and maintains positive relationships with students. Leads one on one and small group mentoring sessions with students on topics such as school, family, friendships, future planning, and more. Acts as a positive role model for students. The Youth Counselor is responsible for assisting the Teen Center Coordinator in the management of the Teen Area. Instructs students on the expectations and guidelines of the teen space and maintains all safety standards of the Library. The Youth Counselor position assists with the monitoring and reporting of vendor-led programs. Assists the Teen Center Coordinator in the completion of monthly reports and data collection as well as the completion and submission of incident reports. Collects and organizes attendance information for daily programming within the teen space. Collects and organizes other relevant program data (programming evaluations, surveys, etc.) Interacts with all community members, especially youth.
