<p><b>General Summary:</b></p><p>The Adult Services / Lead Librarian is a full-time, non-union, non-exempt, 40-hour, 52 week per year position that oversees the library&rsquo;s budget, physical materials, programs, and staff, ensuring all operations follow the policies set by the Board of Library Trustees. This position works closely with the Trustees as both an advisor and active contributor in developing policies, preparing and managing the budget, setting goals, planning services, and evaluating outcomes.</p><p>In addition to providing direct service to patrons, this role carries broader operational, technology, and reporting responsibilities under the Library&rsquo;s updated organizational structure. The Librarian 1 is the entry level position to the Librarian job family. The Librarian 1 works alongside members of the Library Management Team and with other key stakeholders to develop policies, procedures, workflows and sustainable approaches for a variety of library programs and services.</p><p>
 Library Systems &amp; Services (LS&amp;S) is currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a full-time-time Librarian 1 in the Youth Services department. In this role, you will provide engaging library services and programs to children and teens in the community. With more senior Librarian or Director oversight, works both independently and with other staff to execute small to large scale projects. Librarians are responsible for organizing and managing all resources in the library and may supervise Junior Library Associates.<br>

<b>About the Position</b><br>
<br>
As part of the Information Services/Adult Services Department, and reporting to the Department Manager, this role provides responsive, high-quality services to adult patrons. Responsibilities include developing and delivering adult services and programming; assisting with collection development, including selection and weeding; creating engaging displays and exhibits; providing reference and information services; maintaining awareness of current professional practices; and performing related duties as assigned.<br>
<br>
The ideal candidate will bring a strong interest in adult nonfiction as well as reference and information services, along with the ability to connect patrons with relevant resources. They will be comfortable using current library technologies and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.<br>
<br>
This individual will demonstrate experience in planning and delivering adult programming, a proactive approach to outreach and community engagement, and strong communication skills. The position requires professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset, along with enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, and a sense of humor.<br>
Prior professional experience with reference services and familiarity with research tools and content platforms (e.g., LibGuides) are preferred.<br>

<b>Job Duties</b><ul><li><b>
Outreach </b>&ndash; Establishes and maintains communication with local community leaders and organizations; coordinates with the Outreach Branch to ensure alignment with system-wide initiatives.
</li><li><b>Evaluation of Branch Needs </b>&ndash; Under supervision, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure alignment with library goals and responsiveness to community needs.<b>
</b></li><li><b>Innovation Programming </b>&ndash; Designs, develops, and implements innovative programs and services, integrating new technologies to support information literacy and effective use of library resources.<b>
</b></li><li><b>Traditional Programming </b>&ndash; Organizes and/or supports library tours, book talks, film programs, reading clubs, and related activities to promote literacy, encourage use of library resources, and inform the community about available services.
</li><li><b>Aesthetics &ndash; </b>Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates displays and exhibits to enhance the library environment and highlight collections and services.
</li><li><b>Social Media </b>&ndash; Supports Communications staff by contributing content that promotes library programs, services, and facilities.
</li><li><b>Customer Service &ndash; </b>Assists patrons in locating, evaluating, and effectively using information and resources; contributes to a welcoming environment that balances the needs of diverse patrons.<b>
</b></li><li><b>Other Duties </b>&ndash; Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

<b>Required Experience</b><ul><li>
Master&rsquo;s degree in Library or Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association, or from a New Jersey Master&rsquo;s program in Library Science deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University.
</li><li>Valid certification as a Professional Librarian issued by Thomas Edison State University.
</li></ul><br>
<b>Preferred Skills</b><ul><li>
Minimum of one (1) year of experience at the Librarian I level strongly preferred.</li><li>
Ability to read, write, speak, or otherwise communicate in a second language (e.g., Spanish and/or South Asian languages).
</li><li>Interest in working in a fast-paced urban environment.
</li><li>Knowledge of current theories, principles, and practices of librarianship, with the ability to adapt to evolving technologies and service models.
</li><li>Ability to design, develop, and deliver innovative programs and services, including the integration of new technologies into library services.</li></ul><br>

<p>The primary responsibility of this position is the coordination and implementation of the Library&rsquo;s services for children, infant through 6th grade. The Children&rsquo;s Librarian will have full supervision of the Children&rsquo;s Area and maintain a quiet, safe, productive, and attractive environment. This position involves working directly with children and their parents or caregivers. It is important, therefore, that the person with this title genuinely likes children, is comfortable with them, and enjoys serving them.
