 The Kitchen Helper will organize and prepare food in large quantities such as salads, sauces, sandwiches, and vegetables under supervision. This position is primarily responsible for the daily husbandry of the animals located in the Northwest Passage section of the zoo. This collection includes California Sea Lions, Polar Bear, American Black Bears, Raven and Bald Eagles. The ideal candidate would be proficient in all aspects of animal care including husbandry, enrichment, training, exhibit maintenance, record keeping, public show presentations and conservation. Essential Job Functions:

Job Summary: Under the direction of Zoo Security leadership, the Zoo Worker – Security ensures a safe and secure environment for employees, guests, vendors, contractors, and animals. <li>Watering: Plants, mulches, fertilizes, weeds, prunes, cleans, and maintains ornamental annuals, perennials, turfgrass, and shrubs throughout the zoo grounds.</li>
<li>Landscaping: Creates new and renovates existing ornamental and native planting areas through thorough site preparation, including invasive species removal, soil amendments, grading, and installation of hardscape features; operates hedgers, string trimmers, aerators, rototillers, and other small-engine landscaping equipment</li>
<li>Event Decorating: Designs, sets up, and maintains seasonal and special event decorative displays and photo opportunities using live and artificial plants, props, lighting, and other elements to enhance the zoo’s seasonal and event functions.</li>
<li>Grounds maintenance: Seasonal maintenance of zoo grounds, including snow removal, litter and trash collection, and leaf blowing.</li>
<li>Other: Provides information and direction to zoo visitors, assists other zoo departments and guests, and performs additional duties as assigned.</li>

Minimum Requirements: 
<ul>
<li>Must be authorized to work in the United States</li>
<li>Must be at least 18 years of age to operate vehicles and riding or landscape equipment</li>
<li>Basic knowledge of relevant computer and software applications, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.</li>
<li>Lifting/Carrying up to 50 (lbs.)</li>
<li>Pushing/Pulling up to 75 (lbs.)</li>

Preferred Qualifications:

<li>Valid driver’s license</li>
<li>WI DATCP Category 3.0, 3.1, or equivalent Pesticide Applicator License.</li>

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focus on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Essential Functions:
