Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain assigned buildings, grounds, and related equipment. The incumbent will perform routine tasks involving cleaning, emptying garbage containers and landscaping.
All activities must support the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (“HACP” or “Authority”) mission, strategic goals and objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.
- Maintains the grounds, garbage container areas, hallways, and parking areas in a neat and orderly manner, not allowing any trash or debris to accumulate; empties garbage containers in all common areas and/or assigned offices.
- Visually inspects assigned work areas, eliminates any obstacles to free passage, and makes certain that adequate lighting is provided at all times.
- Performs general cleaning duties as part of a daily routine to all common areas, including, but not limited to, the community room, elevators, lobbies, laundry centers, hallways, and assigned vacant units preparing them for occupancy.
- Reports all unusual circumstances such as vandalism, missing light bulbs or fixtures, missing smoke detectors or extinguishers in the common areas.
- Keeps an inventory of all janitorial supplies and equipment belonging to the property.
- Performs lawn and landscaping care including, cutting grass, trimming hedges, raking, etc.
- Shovels snow and salts the walkways to ensure safe path for tenants.
- Moves appliances out of vacant units and carries in new appliances before the unit is occupied.
- Performs or assists trades people with various general maintenance duties, including painting, installing new smoke alarms, laying floor tiles, plastering, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- To perform this job successfully, the employee should be able to successfully operate a variety of applicable hand-held tools and devices.
- Must have the ability to learn other programs as required by assigned tasks.
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required and a minimum of 1 year experience in a housekeeping, custodial, or grounds keeping role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Authority’s plan.
ADA and Other Requirements
Positions in this class typically require grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in indoor office environments.
