Under the direction of the Safety and Security supervisor, Code 2, and/or general supervision of a school district administrator, patrols buildings, grounds and adjacent areas of a school; maintains order; prevents the entry of unauthorized persons; enforces applicable sections of the Education Code, the Penal Code, the District’s Student Conduct Code and individual school rules; assists in the maintenance of an orderly and safe campus; assists administrative and staff personnel in maintaining orderly conduct; protects school department property against damage by vandalism and theft; notifies the school principal of situations that may result in disturbances in schools; as directed, cooperates with law enforcement agencies; prepares reports and memoranda; and performs related duties as required; oversees and monitor the behavior of students who are outside of class and at school sponsored activities both on and off campus.
Knowledge of:
Board of Education rules and regulations, state and municipal laws and ordinances; health and safety regulations; basic methods of individual and group supervision; understanding problems of urban youth and human relations; basic record-keeping techniques; operation of a two-way radio, cellular telephone; and other communication equipment as, required.
Ability to:
Take initiative and accept responsibility without close supervision; learn District organization, operations, policies and objectives; assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations and enforce USD rules and regulations and city and state ordinances and laws; learn, interpret, apply and explain laws, rules and regulations; observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action; think and act quickly, tactfully, and maturely in emergencies; communicate courteously, fairly, and convincingly with students, faculty, groups, organization representatives and the general public; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; follow oral and written instructions; prepare accurate, clear and concise oral and written reports; patrol and monitor an assigned campus to maintain order and security; observe health and safety regulations; maintain routine records; understand and follow
Skill:
Excellent oral and communication skills to establish and maintain effective community relations with culturally diverse school and neighborhood groups.
Ability to follow appropriate safety precaution guidelines and procedures and make judgment calls during a crisis, across all school settings and activities. Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, firmness, caring, courtesy,
and consistency.
