Security Engineer (Journeyman Level)

Viking Client Services has been providing services in the financial industry for over 50 years. We consist of a robust call center and a growing payment processing business. We are seeking a Security Engineer to support and enhance the security of our systems, networks, and data. This role focuses on implementing established security practices, identifying vulnerabilities, and responding to incidents. The ideal candidate has solid hands-on experience and can operate independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain security controls across systems, applications, and networks+
  • Monitor security alerts and investigate potential incidents
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and support remediation efforts
  • Assist in incident response and root cause analysis
  • Collaborate with engineering and IT teams to integrate security best practices
  • Support configuration and management of security tools (SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, firewalls)
  • Maintain and enforce security policies and procedures
  • Document security processes and findings
  • Assist with compliance efforts (e.g., NIST, SOC 2, ISO 27001)
  • Stay current with emerging threats and vulnerabilities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–5 years of experience in information security or IT security-related roles
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls)
  • Experience with common security tools and technologies
  • Basic understanding of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with scripting (Python, Bash, or similar)
  • Understanding of common security frameworks (NIST, CIS, OWASP)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Security certifications (Security+, CEH, or similar)
  • Experience with vulnerability management tools
  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices
  • Familiarity with identity and access management (IAM, MFA)
  • Experience working in regulated environments

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


We offer a comprehensive benefit package which includes sick time, vacation, 401k with employer matching along with medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance. The salary for this position is $95,000-$110,000
