Security Guard

Job Summary

Security experience preferred, applicant must meet the requirements to perform the work commensurate with civil service requirements for the position including the ability to stand and walk for long periods of times while patrolling library premises and reporting suspicious activities to the Librarian-In-Charge. Communicate in English via written and verbal means. Ability to interact in a calm and professional manner with the staff and public while performing assigned duties as outlined in library procedures and in accordance with NY State Security Guard Guidelines.

Responsibilities and Duties

Must be a team player with the flexibility to help others in the department, complete tasks associated with customer service driven needs. This is a per-diem position, under the direct supervision of the Building Manager, schedule is flexible as determined by the library management.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Patrols grounds and buildings looking for signs of suspicious activity.

Check gates, windows, doors and lights; check boiler room gauges.

Attends to curbside pickup, as needed.

Reports disturbances or suspicious circumstances to the Manager.

Prepare daily reports or logs data concerning daily activities.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Working knowledge of the basic rules of good conduct expected on public grounds and in public buildings; working knowledge of the buildings and grounds patrolled and of the rules, regulations and procedures pertaining to admissions; ability to observe suspicious activities and report evidence of loss or damage to property; ability to prepare written reports; ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public; ability to follow oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1) Possession of a valid New York State driver's license at time of appointment; license must be maintained.

2) Upon appointment, candidates must apply for registration as a guard with the New York State Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. Registration must be maintained throughout employment in this title.

Job Type: Part-time per diem

Salary: $25.00 /hour
