Job Summary:
The Security Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of safety and security at Gurney’s. This role ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for guests, employees, and the property while maintaining the highest standards of hospitality. The Security Manager will lead the security team, develop and implement protocols, and serve as the primary point of contact for all safety and emergency response efforts. This individual must balance strong operational discipline with a guest-focused approach that aligns with Gurney’s service culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guest & Employee Safety
Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests and team members by maintaining a professional, visible, and approachable presence throughout the property. Handle all situations with a service-first, de-escalation mindset. - Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, train, and manage the security team. Establish clear expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and ensure all team members are prepared to respond to incidents effectively. - Security Operations & Protocols
Develop, implement, and continuously improve security procedures, including emergency response plans, access control, and daily operational protocols. - Emergency Response & Incident Command
Lead all emergency response efforts, acting as the on-site incident commander when necessary. Coordinate with local police, fire, and emergency services. Conduct post-incident reviews and reporting. - Risk Management & Compliance
Conduct regular property-wide risk assessments and safety audits. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Partner with HR and leadership on incident documentation and liability matters. - Surveillance & Systems Management
Oversee all security systems including CCTV, alarm systems, access control, and key control. Ensure all systems are functioning properly and being utilized effectively. - Incident Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate and thorough records of all incidents. Analyze trends and provide regular reporting to senior leadership with actionable recommendations. - Event & Crowd Management
Plan and execute security coverage for events, weddings, and high-volume periods. Ensure appropriate staffing, crowd control, and guest safety measures are in place. - Training & Preparedness
Develop and lead regular training sessions and emergency drills for the security team and other departments as needed. - Cross-Department Collaboration
Work closely with Rooms, F&B, Engineering, and Spa teams to ensure seamless operations and a safe guest experience across all areas of the resort. - Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of security leadership experience, preferably in a luxury hotel or resort environment
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Deep understanding of security systems, protocols, and emergency response
- Excellent communication, judgment, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to remain calm and lead effectively in high-pressure situations
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Valid New York State Security Guard license required
- CPR and First Aid certification required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol the property for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift and carry items up to 30 pounds, such as security equipment or barricades.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting to inspect areas and handle security tasks.
- Good vision to monitor surveillance screens and read reports; good hearing to respond to alarms and communicate effectively.
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively to convey information to guests, team members, and other departments.
