Security Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers and employees at the Commercial Center. As a visible presence at our Big Valley Market and Starbucks, this role ensures safety through vigilant patrols, customer engagement, and rapid response to safety concerns. Security Officers are expected to provide excellent customer service while promoting a welcoming and secure shopping experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet customers and monitor entry points to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Patrol the property, including the sales floor, fueling area, storage areas, and parking lot.
  • Deter theft, loitering, vandalism, and other criminal or unsafe activity.
  • Monitor and address suspicious behavior using de-escalation techniques when appropriate.
  • Enforce store policies including loitering, shoplifting, and trespassing.
  • Escort employees during opening, closing, or bank deposit runs as needed.
  • Respond to incidents involving customer disputes, theft, or employee concerns.
  • Monitor security systems (e.g., cameras, alarms) and report any issues or breaches.
  • Maintain daily activity logs and incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services when needed.
  • Provide customer service by answering questions and assisting with general inquiries.
  • Participate in safety drills and assist with evacuation procedures during emergencies.
  • Use email and internal systems to communicate shift updates and incident summaries.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by store leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or loss prevention preferred.
  • Possession of a valid and current Guard Card is strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Computer savvy; able to operate security systems, email platforms, and timekeeping software.
  • Ability to use online systems for timekeeping, scheduling, and communication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and patrol for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions (heat, rain, cold).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work environment includes indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to fuel fumes, vehicle traffic, and varying weather conditions.
  • This position may require evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour
