Job Overview
We’re seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to lead financial accounting and reporting functions while providing guidance and training to department staff. In this role, you’ll ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records, oversee complex accounting tasks, prepare reports, and support audits. Your expertise will drive informed financial decisions and uphold high standards of financial management in a mission-driven organization focused on transparency and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Coordinate Team: Supervise daily tasks, assign work, provide technical guidance, and assist with training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Accounts Payable Management: Review and approve invoices, reimbursements, and payroll, ensuring compliance with policies and correct coding.
  • Accounting Administration: Approve cash receipts, journal entries, and disbursements; maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Fuel Report Oversight: Manage monthly fuel reports, verify transactions, and monitor suspicious activity for departmental review.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure proper filing and payment of sales and use taxes; maintain related financial records.
  • Audit Support: Assist with month-end, year-end, and audit processes, including bank reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Grant Administration: Oversee financial management of grants, maintain documentation, and support audit preparation.
  • Budget Assistance: Support department budget preparation, monitor expenditures, and ensure compliance with approved budgets.
  • Internal Controls: Recommend improvements to financial processes and controls for greater efficiency.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as required.

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or in a leadership role within public accounting firms or corporate finance departments, with a focus on financial accounting and reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and SOX compliance, with experience in both governmental and non-profit accounting practices.
  • Expertise in financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, balance sheet management, and cash flow analysis to support decision-making.
  • Proficient in double-entry bookkeeping and technical accounting principles to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards.
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements and the preparation of financial disclosures for non-profit organizations or government entities.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a proven ability to interpret complex financial data, resolve discrepancies, and prepare clear, detailed reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established financial procedures.
