Senior Accountant

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our currency exchange business. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all financial transactions, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining accurate foreign exchange records, and supporting strategic financial decisions. This is a critical role within a fast-paced, transaction-intensive environment where precision and knowledge of foreign exchange operations are essential.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting

• Maintain accurate books of accounts for all foreign currency transactions, including purchases, sales, and transfers.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Reconcile foreign currency positions, cash balances, and bank accounts on a daily basis.
• Monitor and record exchange rate gains and losses in accordance with accounting standards.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.

Regulatory Compliance & AML

• Ensure full compliance with State Bank regulations, anti-money laundering (AML) laws, and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
• Prepare and submit mandatory regulatory reports (e.g., Currency Transaction Reports, Suspicious Activity Reports) accurately and on time.
• Maintain proper documentation for all transactions in line with applicable laws and internal policies.
• Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
• Stay current with changes in financial regulations affecting currency exchange operations.

Treasury & Cash Management

• Monitor and manage foreign currency inventory across multiple currency types and branches.
• Track daily foreign currency buy/sell rates and ensure accurate posting in accounting systems.
• Coordinate with banks and other financial institutions for currency procurement and repatriation.
• Perform daily cash counts and reconcile physical cash against system records.
• Flag and investigate any discrepancies in foreign exchange positions or cash shortages.

Taxation & Audit Support

• Prepare accurate tax computations and returns, including sales tax, withholding tax, and income tax.
• Coordinate and facilitate internal and external audit processes.
• Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation for audit trails.
• Implement recommendations from audit findings and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Qualifications & RequirementsEducation

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
• Professional qualification such as ACCA, CA, CPA, or CIMA (preferred or in progress).

Experience

• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a currency exchange, money transfer, bank, or financial services environment.
• Demonstrated experience with multi-currency accounting and foreign exchange transactions.
• Hands-on experience with AML/KYC compliance procedures and regulatory reporting.
• Familiarity with ERP or accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Tally, or similar).

Skills & Competencies

• Strong command of accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP) and financial reporting.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail in high-volume transaction environments.
• Solid understanding of foreign exchange markets, exchange rate mechanisms, and currency risk.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and financial modelling.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• High level of integrity and ethical conduct in handling sensitive financial data.

Pay: Rs100,000.00 - Rs150,000.00 per month
