Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's accounting operations through accurate financial reporting, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and financial analysis. This role serves as a key contributor to the integrity of the company's financial records and helps ensure accounting processes are efficient, well-documented, and scalable as the business grows.

Working closely with the Finance Director, Bookkeeper, and external accounting partners, the Senior Accountant performs hands-on accounting work while helping strengthen internal controls, improve processes, and maintain compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position offers a growth path within the Finance Department. High-performing individuals may have the opportunity to assume increased responsibility and advance into Accounting Manager, Controller, or other finance leadership positions as the organization continues to grow.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, prepaid schedules, fixed asset schedules, and other accounting entries as required.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure all accounts are accurately supported and reconciled on a timely basis.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Review general ledger transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper coding.
  • Work closely with the company's Bookkeeper to review accounting transactions, supporting documentation, and routine accounting workflows.
  • Provide guidance and review of bookkeeping activities to improve accuracy, consistency, and close readiness.
  • Review accounts payable transactions, credit card activity, expense reports, and bank activity for proper coding and support.
  • Support accounts receivable processes, billing reconciliations, customer payment activity, and revenue-related schedules.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, construction-in-progress tracking, and capital expenditure reporting.
  • Prepare payroll-related journal entries and perform payroll account reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for management review.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger activity across multiple entities, departments, and business units.
  • Coordinate with external accounting firms, tax advisors, auditors, and internal operational teams to support reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits, tax filings, lender reporting, due diligence requests, and regulatory reviews.
  • Document accounting policies, procedures, and workflows to improve consistency, efficiency, and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting capabilities, and financial controls.
  • Support accounting system administration, reporting enhancements, and future ERP implementation or optimization projects, including NetSuite-related initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects, financial analyses, and other accounting responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assume increased accounting ownership and leadership responsibilities over time based on performance and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting required.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar accounting systems preferred.
  • CPA designation preferred but not required.
  • Experience in telecommunications, construction, infrastructure, recurring revenue businesses, private equity-backed organizations, or multi-entity environments is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting processes including month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and resolve accounting issues independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with multi-entity accounting environments preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a remote work environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and assist with implementing effective solutions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
