Role Overview
The Senior Accounts Officer will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the core accounting operations of the company. This role involves ensuring the accuracy of financial records, preparing timely financial reports, maintaining internal controls, coordinating with auditors, and providing analytical insights to support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- General Accounting
- Maintain and manage the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and up-to-date.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts (bank, vendor, customer, accruals, prepayments, etc.).
- Process and review journal entries and month-end / year-end closing activities.
- Accounts Payable / Receivable
- Oversee the accounts payable process: vendor invoice processing, payments, vendor reconciliation.
- Manage accounts receivable: invoicing, collections, customer reconciliation, aging analysis.
- Ensure timely follow-up on receivables and manage credit risk.
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow).
- Generate management reports, variance analysis, and explain key financial metrics.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and improve internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations (e.g., GST, TDS), accounting standards, and company policies.
- Coordinate and support both internal and external audits. Assist auditors with documentation and schedules.
- Cost Accounting / Inventory (if relevant to your business)
- Work closely with the operations or production team to account for manufacturing costs, inventory valuation, and cost variances.
- Help in standard costing, variance analysis, and reporting.
- Taxation
- Assist in preparation and filing of statutory returns (GST, TDS, etc.).
- Liaise with tax consultants / advisors for tax planning, audits, and compliance.
- Cash Flow & Treasury Support
- Monitor and manage cash flow: cash inflows and outflows, working capital requirements.
- Assist in banking operations: bank reconciliations, fund transfers, bank guarantees, etc.
- Team Management & Mentorship
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, accountants, or interns.
- Provide training, set goals, and review performance for the accounting team.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify accounting process inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Implement best practices, automation, and software upgrades to streamline accounting operations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing / electronics / similar industry.
- Certifications: Chartered Accountant (CA), CMA, CPA, or similar is a plus but not mandatory.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP / Ind AS / IFRS as applicable)
- Experience with ERP/accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tally, or other)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
- Leadership Skills: Experience in supervising accounting staff, guiding junior colleagues, and handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
