We're looking for an engineer who gets excited about using their creativity to design and implement automated material handling systems. The ideal candidate knows the industry and takes real satisfaction in developing innovative, efficient, and practical designs for our customers. In this role, you'll have the freedom to do exactly that—use your knowledge to model solutions that set RSC (and you!) apart from the competition.
Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Leads the solution design for conveyor, sortation, pallet handling, AS/RS, and robotic systems
- Specify system components needed to meet the customer objectives, i.e., the correct type of sortation, conveyance, AS/RS, robots, etc., based on throughput requirements, storage capacity needs, material to be handled, etc.
- Develop all required mechanical drawings for proposals and projects; plan view drawings, elevation view drawings, installation drawings, throughput models, etc.
- Create detailed system proposals, inclusive of preparing cost estimates, soliciting pricing from suppliers and sub-contractors, and generating detailed proposal documentation
- Prepare and support sales presentations, illustrating system design concepts, throughput rates, equipment specifications, etc.
- Generate system bill of materials, spare parts lists and orders equipment and services for projects
- Continually establishes and maintains relationships with equipment suppliers and sub-contractors to support development of designs, pricing and delivery schedules
- Creates detailed description of operation documentation, for use by the site operations and maintenance
- Act as a mentor, inclusive of leading technical reviews of proposals and projects to ensure quality and accuracy, as well as leading internal training classes
- Participate in visits to customer facilities, as needed to document existing conditions, as well as identify opportunities to improve, expand or upgrade systems
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the material handling industry
- Minimum 5 years of experience creating material handling system drawings in AutoCAD or equivalent
- Experience with automated sortation technologies (shoe, crossbelt, tilt-tray, MDR transfers)
- Experience with AS/RS mechanical design (shuttles, cranes, lifts, racking interfaces, load-handling devices)
- Experience with robotics integration (AMRs, robotic picking, palletizing/depalletizing)
- Experience with automated pallet-handling equipment (conveyors, transfers, turntables, lifts)
- Experience developing complex proposals and cost estimates
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Strong knowledge of industrial safety standards (ANSI, OSHA, RIA, CEMA, ISO)
- Strong understanding of industrial control concepts (PLCs, VFDs, WCS/WMS, HMIs, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings (single-lines, I/O, panel layouts)

Requirements:
Qualifications
- Residence in Greater Cincinnati or Columbus, OH areas
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED), and/or technical school
- Minimum of one to three years' related experience in the lift truck industry preferred
- General mechanical aptitude
- Strong customer service focus and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Must maintain a clean driving record, as the position involves travel
- Must work well independently and in team environment
- Must be a driven and self-motivated individual
