Applications & Integration Engineer
Full-Time | London | Engineering

About the Company

We are a thermal hardware technology company designing and deploying next-generation thermal energy systems. Our products sit at the intersection of hardware innovation and real-world integration — enabling industrial, commercial, and infrastructure customers to achieve significant gains in thermal efficiency and decarbonisation. We work on complex, first-of-kind deployments with demanding technical and commercial environments.

The Role

We are looking for an Applications & Integration Engineer to bridge our product capabilities with real-world customer deployments. This is a technically deep, commercially aware role that spans the full product lifecycle — from early-stage market discovery and feasibility work through to hands-on site commissioning, performance monitoring, and ongoing product improvement feedback.
You will be the primary technical point of contact across customer engagements, acting with confidence in both pre-sales and post-sales environments. You thrive navigating ambiguity, are comfortable on customer sites, and bring a systems-thinking mindset to every challenge.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Sales & Applications Scouting

  • Drive market adjacency mapping and use-case hypothesis development to identify new application opportunities for thermal hardware
  • Lead field discovery activities including technical customer interviews and feasibility assessments
  • Conduct fit-gap analyses to evaluate product readiness for new configurations and environments
  • Contribute to techno-economic modelling and business case development alongside commercial colleagues
  • Support initial proposal development (technical and commercial scope), early-stage negotiations, and business analysis activities
  • Participate in market conversations and future product exploration initiatives

System Integration Engineering

  • Own the detailed site data analysis and end-to-end system design process for customer deployments
  • Define system P&IDs and interface documentation; size pipework and select appropriate valves and components
  • Develop and maintain system performance models using contractor and customer-supplied data
  • Define control philosophy, communications protocols, and high-level electrical design requirements
  • Lead review and technical sign-off of contractor-produced P&IDs, schematics, and design calculations
  • Identify, flag, and resolve design challenges or integration issues early in the project lifecycle
  • Develop integration tooling as required to support project delivery

Site Commissioning & Deployment

  • Act as the main technical point of contact throughout deployment and site start-up
  • Produce technical commissioning documentation and define hold points for contractor teams
  • Provide on-site commissioning support, with particular responsibility for first-of-kind configurations
  • Witness and support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and deployment activities
  • Troubleshoot integration and system issues during commissioning, working hands-on with contractor teams

Customer Lifecycle & Product Improvement

  • Conduct thermal load profiling, demand modelling, and high-level input/output analysis for customer sites
  • Generate and manage customer site requirements documentation
  • Undertake site surveys and site readiness visits to inform design and planning decisions
  • Perform compressor right-sizing and configuration analysis for each deployment
  • Feed back product improvement insights and field learnings directly to R&D and product teams
  • Support ongoing site maintenance oversight and performance monitoring activities

About You
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience in system integration, applications engineering, or technical project delivery — ideally within thermal, HVAC, refrigeration, industrial gas, or energy hardware sectors
  • Comfortable reading and producing P&IDs, schematics, and engineering calculations
  • Hands-on experience with commissioning activities on physical hardware systems
  • Strong technical communication skills — able to present clearly to both engineering and commercial audiences
  • Comfortable in customer-facing settings, including site visits and technical sales conversations
  • Self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously

Desirable

  • Experience with control system architectures and communications protocols (e.g. Modbus, BACnet, CAN)
  • Background in compressor technology, heat pump systems, or industrial thermal processes
  • Familiarity with techno-economic or systems performance modelling
  • Experience working in a scale-up or early-commercial-stage hardware company

What They Offer

  • The opportunity to work on technically novel thermal hardware at the frontier of industrial decarbonisation
  • A varied, high-ownership role spanning commercial, design, and site delivery work
  • A collaborative, engineering-led culture where your insights directly shape product development
  • Competitive salary, equity participation, and benefits package
  • Flexible hybrid working with regular site and customer travel
