Senior Automation Engineer – IT/OT Integration at Novo Nordisk Engineering

The PLC Systems department is a central part of our automation delivery. We work across the full project lifecycle — from early concept and design to commissioning, testing, and validation — in regulated GMP environments, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and solutions that work in real production.
About the role
In this role, your contribution will be key in designing and integrating process and logistics solutions across complex IT and OT landscapes, mainly focused in PLC & SCADA systems. You will primarily work in the execution phase of projects, while also contributing to solution design (Basic and Detailed Design) and test strategies to ensure high-quality, compliant deliveries.
You will collaborate closely with colleagues across Automation, IT, Quality, and Project Management in some of the largest pharmaceutical investments in our history.
- Designing and developing automation solutions both in a traditional and innovative manner
- Discussing integrations and system architectures with platforms such as PLC/SCADA, DCS, PAS-X, SAP EWM and fleet manager (automated logistics is a differential)
- Contributing to standardisation efforts and alignment with target architectures
- Documenting, testing, and verifying solutions in new and existing facilities
- Collaborating with a broad stakeholder landscape across NNE, customers, IT partners, and suppliers
- Enjoying working across disciplines and understanding different technical perspectives
- Taking a structured approach to complex tasks and changing priorities
- Comfortable collaborating with many stakeholders in project environments
- Showing curiosity and openness toward new technologies and ways of working
- Motivated to contribute to and grow with the NNE culture of innovation
- Experience working with automated and complex data structures in pharma industrial environments.
- Automated warehouse and logistics are a differential.
- Understanding of integration between IT and OT systems, including ERP, MES, and DCS/PCS layers
- Experience with system integration testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Experience with industrial networks, communication protocols such as OPC‑UA and Profinet, and control systems such as PLC/SCADA (Siemens, GE, Aveva, etc)
- Knowledge of GMP / GAMP requirements in pharmaceutical or other regulated industries
- Experience with OT security and IT requirements for integration into corporate IT Domains
