ob Title: Senior zSystems Automation / GDPS Engineer
Role Overview
The Senior zSystems Automation/GDPS Engineer is responsible for designing, coding, and implementing enterprise-level automation solutions across z/OS environments. This role focuses on replacing manual operational tasks with intelligent automation, enhancing system monitoring, and strengthening Disaster Recovery (DR) and Rapid Recovery capabilities through GDPS.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in OPS/MVS, NetView/SA, GDPS scripting, and z/OS operations, with a strong ability to operate in high-availability, mission-critical environments.
Primary Responsibilities
Automation Engineering
- Design and develop OPS/MVS and NetView/SA rules and REXX scripts to replace manual operator commands.
- Implement intelligent automation workflows to improve operational efficiency and reduce human intervention.
- Develop and maintain automation standards and documentation.
Monitoring & Event Management
- Create system monitoring rules to evaluate system messages and environmental conditions.
- Implement automated responses for predefined system events.
- Design escalation workflows for Operations and support teams.
- Ensure automation aligns with SLA and operational resilience requirements.
Service Management Integration
- Develop API-based automation for generating ServiceNow incident tickets.
- Ensure successful implementation of automation requests within SLA timeframes.
- Improve incident detection and resolution efficiency through proactive automation.
GDPS & Disaster Recovery
- Assist in GDPS software installation and configuration.
- Develop and maintain GDPS scripts to support Rapid Recovery and Disaster Recovery processes.
- Enhance failover, workload management, and cross-site recovery automation.
- Support periodic DR testing and validation exercises.
Operational Support
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation, including weekend commitments when required.
- Support production incidents and provide automation-driven solutions during critical events.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, storage, and application teams during outage scenarios.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience delivering automation solutions using OPS/MVS and NetView/SA.
- 15+ years of hands-on experience with:
- TSO
- ISPF
- SDSF
- 15+ years of experience using z/OS operational commands.
- 10+ years of experience with z/OS including:
- JES2
- RACF
- Core base system components
- 10+ years of experience in OPS/MVS REXX and NetView/SA REXX coding, particularly in GDPS-related environments.
- 10+ years of experience with GDPS installation and scripting for Disaster Recovery and Rapid Recovery.
- 5+ years of experience developing automation using APIs (e.g., ServiceNow integration).
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills in high-availability environments.
- Proven ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
AI & Modernization Expectations
- Ability to use AI tools to analyze operational data and recommend automation improvements.
- Use M365 Copilot AI for summarizing technical meetings and drafting documentation.
- Stay current with emerging AI capabilities relevant to z/OS and LinuxONE system programming.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: ₹514,335.38 - ₹1,841,638.67 per year
