Senior Backend Engineer – Kotlin/Java

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Food Core Squad. This team is responsible for building and evolving critical backend services that power the company’s core shopping platform. The solutions you will work on directly influence how millions of users interact with products and services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and a seamless customer experience.

Our technology stack centers on Kotlin and Java, with MongoDB as a key database technology, deployed in a modern cloud-native environment. You’ll collaborate in a cross-functional product team alongside engineers, product managers, and designers, solving complex problems and driving technical excellence.

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services in Kotlin/Java.

• Work extensively with MongoDB on schema design, indexing strategies, and performance optimization.

• Participate in architectural decisions to ensure scalable and resilient solutions.

• Collaborate with product and engineering peers to refine requirements and deliver value iteratively.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

• Take part in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of other engineers.

• Continuously improve performance, reliability, and development practices.

• 5+ years of backend development experience.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin and/or Java.

• Proven hands-on experience with MongoDB.

• Solid understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven design.

• Experience building REST APIs and working with messaging systems.

• Familiarity with containerized/cloud-native environments (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or similar).

• Strong knowledge of software engineering fundamentals and design patterns.

• Excellent communication skills in English and a collaborative team mindset.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with additional NoSQL or SQL databases.

• Knowledge of caching solutions (Redis, Memcached).

• Exposure to large-scale consumer or e-commerce platforms.

• Familiarity with observability/monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, etc.).
