About the Role:

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to take ownership of our Laravel-based backend ecosystem. This role is critical to ensuring system scalability, performance, and reliability while simplifying complex legacy domains without disrupting business-critical workflows. You will play a key role in shaping architecture, improving operational maturity, and driving high-quality engineering standards across the platform.

Key Responsibilities:

Backend Architecture & Ownership

• Lead end-to-end Laravel architecture across services, repositories, policies, middleware, queues, and automated testing
• Design scalable, maintainable, and high-performance backend systems aligned with business needs
• Refactor and simplify complex legacy systems while ensuring stability and continuity
• Database & Data Engineering
• Own database design, schema architecture, and data modeling
• Optimize query performance and ensure high data integrity
• Manage migrations, seeders, and safe legacy data transitions
• Handle multi-database connections and analytics workflows (MySQL, PostgreSQL/Redshift-style queries)

System Reliability & Operations

• Ensure production readiness across CI/CD pipelines, environments, and deployments
• Implement best practices for secrets management, observability, and monitoring
• Manage queue systems and asynchronous processing for high-performance applications

Integrations & External Systems

• Lead integrations with third-party services including payments, media, and publishing platforms
• Work with AWS services such as SQS, SNS, SES, and S3
• Integrate with tools like HubSpot, Google reCAPTCHA, and other external APIs
• Ensure secure and scalable API design and integrations

Collaboration & Engineering Excellence

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust backend solutions
• Drive code quality through testing (PHPUnit), code reviews, and best practices
• Contribute to documentation and API standards (OpenAPI or equivalent)

• Laravel 11 ecosystem (Sanctum, Fortify, Eloquent ORM)

• Laravel queues, jobs, migrations, seeders, and factories

• MySQL 8 (advanced optimization and large schema handling)
• Multi-database Laravel architecture
• Redis (preferred)
• S3-compatible file storage
