Konishi is building AI automation for the insurance industry. Our platform helps insurance companies in Pakistan, the Middle East, and beyond process documents, generate reports, and streamline workflows that traditionally require hours of manual effort.

We're at an inflection point: our prototype is deployed and serving customers, and we're now building the production infrastructure to scale. This role is critical to that journey.

The Role

We need an experienced engineer to help us build robust, secure, and scalable backend infrastructure. You'll be instrumental in:

• Custom Agent Orchestration - We're migrating from a third-party orchestration platform (LangGraph) to a custom FastAPI-based system. This gives us control over deployment, costs, and most importantly, data sovereignty, which is a non-negotiable requirement for many of our customers.
• Hybrid Deployment Architecture - Our customers (insurance companies) have strict data sovereignty requirements. We're building an architecture where customer data stays on-premises while agent execution happens in the cloud. You'll design and implement this.
• Security & Compliance - Insurance data is sensitive. You'll ensure our systems meet data handling requirements for Pakistan and Middle Eastern markets.

What You'll Do

• Assist the founder in the design of the architecture for our new custom agent orchestration system
• Set up infrastructure for development, staging, and production environments

Ongoing responsibilities:

• Build and maintain the custom agent orchestration platform
• Design and implement hybrid deployment architecture (on-prem data + cloud compute)
• Implement security best practices: encryption, access controls, audit logging
• Set up monitoring, alerting, and observability systems
• Work with the founder on backend development for new features
• Eventually mentor junior engineers as the team grows

Technical Environment

Current stack:

• Python (FastAPI for new services, existing LangGraph-based agent)
• Pinecone for document embeddings (migrating to self-hosted)
• OpenAI APIs for LLM capabilities

What we're building:

• Custom workflow orchestration engine (replacing LangGraph)
• OpenAI APIs for LLM capabilities
• PostgreSQL with pgvector for vector storage
• AWS S3 for file storage
• Hybrid deployment system (cloud orchestration + on-prem data storage)
• Multi-tenant architecture with company-level isolation
• Integration adapters for enterprise communication platforms (Slack, Teams, Email)
• Docker for containerization

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong Python skills, particularly with async programming and FastAPI
• Experience designing and deploying distributed systems
• Solid understanding of security principles: encryption, authentication, access control
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred but not essential)
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes is a plus)
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
• Ability to work independently and make architectural decisions
• Based in Pakistan with reliable internet for remote collaboration

Strongly preferred:

• Experience with hybrid cloud/on-premises architectures
• Understanding of data sovereignty requirements and compliance
• Experience in regulated industries (finance, insurance, healthcare)
• Familiarity with vector databases and RAG systems
• Experience building workflow or orchestration systems

Nice to have:

• Experience with LLM integration and AI systems
• Knowledge of the Pakistan/Middle East tech landscape
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible)
