Senior BIM Engineer (Security Systems Design)

Role Overview

The Senior BIM Engineer is responsible for the development, coordination, and management of advanced BIM models and digital engineering deliverables across complex multidisciplinary security, infrastructure, and engineering projects.

This role supports project delivery through the production of coordinated BIM models, technical drawings, clash detection activities, and digital design workflows aligned with project standards, operational requirements, and BIM execution plans.

The successful candidate will possess strong experience in BIM modelling for complex engineering environments, with expertise across MEP, ELV, ULV, ICT, and electronic security systems. The role requires advanced capability in Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and BIM coordination processes, with the ability to integrate security systems within multidisciplinary project environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. BIM Modelling & Design Development

  • Develop and maintain BIM models for:
  • Electronic security systems
  • ELV and ULV systems
  • ICT infrastructure
  • Structured cabling systems
  • MEP coordination environments
  • Produce project deliverables including:
  • 3D BIM models
  • Technical and shop drawings
  • Installation layouts
  • Schematics and device layouts
  • Coordination drawings
  • As-built documentation
  • Convert engineering concepts, sketches, and specifications into coordinated BIM deliverables.
  • Ensure models comply with project BIM standards, client requirements, and company procedures.
  • Update BIM models in line with design revisions, RFIs, and site requirements.
  • Maintain accurate BIM data, schedules, object parameters, and asset information.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of BIM Execution Plans (BEP).

2. BIM Coordination & Clash Detection

  • Coordinate BIM activities across security, ICT, MEP, architectural, and structural disciplines.
  • Conduct clash detection and model reviews using Navisworks and other BIM coordination platforms.
  • Prepare and manage:
  • Clash detection reports
  • Coordination logs
  • Design issue registers
  • Model review documentation
  • Resolve spatial coordination issues and multidisciplinary interface conflicts.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, technical workshops, and design reviews.
  • Support construction sequencing and installation planning activities.

3. BIM Standards & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all BIM deliverables comply with:
  • BIM Execution Plans
  • Client standards
  • Company procedures
  • ISO and digital engineering standards
  • QA/QC requirements
  • Develop and maintain BIM templates, libraries, and parametric families.
  • Create custom Revit families and BIM content for security and technology systems.
  • Conduct quality reviews to ensure model accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Support continuous improvement of BIM standards and digital engineering workflows.

4. Digital Engineering & Automation

  • Support advanced digital engineering workflows including:
  • Dynamo scripting
  • BIM automation
  • Parametric modelling
  • Data integration processes
  • Assist in developing automated solutions to improve modelling efficiency and coordination.
  • Support integration of BIM data with:
  • Asset management systems
  • Construction sequencing tools
  • Quantity take-off workflows
  • Project reporting platforms
  • Maintain awareness of emerging BIM technologies and digital delivery methodologies.

5. Project Delivery & Technical Support

  • Collaborate with engineers, consultants, contractors, project managers, and client stakeholders to support coordinated project delivery.
  • Provide technical support during design, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Assist project teams with model-based coordination and construction support activities.
  • Mentor junior BIM modelers and provide guidance on BIM best practices where required.
  • Support delivery across complex and fast-paced multidisciplinary project environments.

Technical Expertise

  • BIM modelling for complex engineering and infrastructure projects

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree, Diploma, or Technical Qualification in:
  • Engineering
  • Architecture
  • BIM / Digital Engineering
  • Building Services
  • Construction Technology
  • Or related discipline
  • Minimum 5–10 years of BIM modelling experience on complex engineering, infrastructure, or security projects.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale multidisciplinary BIM projects.
  • Strong experience within:
  • Security systems
  • ELV / ULV environments
  • ICT infrastructure
  • MEP coordination projects
  • Experience in:
  • Data centres
  • Mixed-use developments
  • Commercial and industrial facilities
  • Critical national infrastructure projects
  • Experience creating and managing advanced Revit families and BIM content libraries.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Valid driving licence for the country of operation (desirable).
