Senior Bookkeeper - Public Accounting

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper with a strong background in public accounting. This role requires managing a portfolio of U.S.-based clients, overseeing full-cycle bookkeeping, and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.

The ideal candidate is confident working independently, comfortable engaging with clients, and capable of reviewing and improving existing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients across various industries
  • Perform and review complex bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintain and review general ledger accuracy and integrity
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts and financial reports
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, ensuring high-quality financial data
  • Serve as a key point of contact for client queries and provide professional support
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and firm standards
  • Review junior team members’ work (if applicable) and provide guidance
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and efficiencies
  • Maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready records

Requirements

  • 5+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within a public accounting firm
  • Proven experience managing multiple clients simultaneously
  • Strong experience working with U.S.-based clients
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero)
  • Strong Excel skills (including data analysis and reconciliations)
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Location & Working Setup

  • Must be based in the United States
  • Fully remote position

Preferred (Advantageous)

  • Relevant accounting qualification
  • Experience in a CPA firm environment
  • Exposure to U.S. tax and/or audit processes
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing junior staff
  • Familiarity with cloud-based accounting and workflow tools
