The Senior Business Development Manager will be a key driver of growth, responsible for identifying, evaluating, structuring, and closing multi-million dollar deals across the entire solar PV spectrum, with a specialized focus on both utility-scale ground-mounted farms and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) rooftop installations. This role requires a sophisticated understanding of project finance, regulatory frameworks, complex contract negotiation, and the unique development challenges of each segment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Planning & Market Penetration
- Strategy Development: Formulate and execute a comprehensive strategy to expand the company's footprint in both the C&I sector (rooftop/captive consumption) and the Utility-Scale sector (ground-mounted PPAs/IPPs).
- Market Intelligence: Conduct in-depth analysis on land acquisition laws (for ground-mount), Net Metering/Open Access regulations (for rooftop), and competitor positioning in both segments.
2. Sales Origination & Deal Closure
- Ground-Mounted Solar
- Lead the site selection and secure large, contiguous land parcels.
- Navigate complex land title verification, zoning, and environmental/permitting clearances.
- Rooftop Solar (C&I Focus):
- Structure and negotiate Behind-the-Meter (BTM) PPAs or outright ownership models, emphasizing immediate electricity bill savings and ESG compliance.
- Financial Structuring: Lead negotiations for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Energy Service Agreements (ESAs), ensuring commercial terms are viable under different financial models (CAPEX, OPEX/PPA, Lease).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in Business Development or Project Development within the Solar PV sector.
- Solar PV Technical Knowledge (Critical):
- Ground-Mount: Proven experience with utility-scale project stages, including land due diligence, site assessment, grid interconnection processes, and transmission line right-of-way (ROW).
- Rooftop: Expert-level knowledge of structural assessments, different roofing types (PEB, RCC, Sheet Metal), net-metering schemes, and the financial drivers for commercial clients (e.g., meeting Renewable Purchase Obligations - RPOs).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the distinct value proposition of both ground-mounted and rooftop solutions to different client types.
