Senior Cell Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

1. Materials Research and Development
  • Design and develop lithium-ion cell for integration into ENC’s battery-pack for electric buses.
  • Conduct research and planning on advanced cathode and anode materials, electrolyte and additives, binders and separators. Evaluate materials for electrochemical performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with UL 1642 Standard regulations.
  • Develop and qualify new materials and suppliers for LIB cell cathode and anode active materials, copper and aluminum conductors, conductive additives (Super P, CNT, graphene, et al), binders, electrolyte and separator. Oversee material certification and compliance testing in collaboration with vendors and external laboratories.
2. Testing and Validation
  • Verify and validate electrochemical and structural material systems through lab-scale and vehicle-level testing. Perform electrochemical testing such as EIS, C-rate cycling, and thermal runaway characterization, as well as mechanical testing (e.g., tensile, fatigue, and vibration) in accordance with UL1642 and other applicable standards.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve material-related issues encountered during product development and production, including cell performance failures, safety failure and storage wear. Use tools such as SEM, XRD, and FTIR for root cause analysis and prepare detailed engineering reports.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Process Integration
  • Collaborate with external research partners, including national labs, material suppliers, and universities, on projects involving battery materials and structural innovations. Lead technical discussions and share findings with internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to implement and optimize materials and processing solutions. Participate in cross-functional reviews and provide materials engineering input for Design Reviews, FMEA, and PPAP processes to ensure performance, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance.
4. Supervision and Documentation
  • Supervise and guide junior engineering staff in the execution of materials testing, analysis, and development activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation related to material specifications, testing protocols, and processing procedures to ensure consistency and knowledge transfer.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Possess fundamental knowledge in chemistry, electrochemistry, materials science and other related fields
  • Familiar with conventional material testing and analysis methods, such as: XRD, SEM, EDS, electrochemical analysis (CV & EIS), etc.
Education, Experience, and/or Required Licenses:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Having over 5 years of experience in lithium-ion cell material developing and over 3 years of experience in lithium-ion cell developing
