How You'll Contribute

The Senior Clinical Registry Data Migration Engineer leads the extraction, mapping, transformation, and validation of complex clinical registry datasets from a wide range of legacy platforms into the NQS platform.

Executing migrations, design and improve ETL frameworks, automate repeatable workflows, and mentor junior team members.

Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and client implementation teams to ensure migrations are scalable, reliable, and aligned with national, state, and registry?specific requirements.

Stay current with emerging technologies, healthcare data standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Pipeline Design
-
Design, implement, and optimize repeatable ETL pipelines for large, complex registry datasets (Trauma, Burn, Surgery, EMS, etc.).

Evaluate and standardize tools, libraries, and patterns used for data migrations (e.g., Python?based ETL frameworks, orchestration, CI/CD for data workflows).

Partner with platform engineering to ensure migration tools integrate cleanly with NQS APIs and core services.
Data Intake & Preparation

Handle large?volume and complex source systems (multiple registries, multi?facility extracts, mixed formats).
-
Profile datasets to identify anomalies, edge cases, and data quality issues up front, and define remediation strategies.

Design reusable schemas and templates for recurring client patterns.
Field Mapping & Data Transformation
-
Translate legacy fields into standardized NQS schemas across Trauma, Burn, Surgery, and related registries.
-
Design of mapping templates and crosswalks for high?complexity implementations, including custom fields and site?specific logic.
-
Normalize values using established rules including date/time logic, MV/SV handling, and categorical value alignment.

Maintain lookup files with strict adherence to formatting requirements (strings, zeros, codes, timestamps).
ETL Execution & Processing
-
Run internal ETL scripts and tools to process client datasets.
-
Identify and correct formatting issues, missing values, or malformed fields.
-
Generate JSON/XML payloads for upload and validate them against NQS schemas.
Quality Control & Validation
-
Compare source vs. converted datasets to ensure accuracy and completeness.
-
Validate transformed fields against expected picklists, formats, and clinical logic.

Document discrepancies and participate in remediation cycles.
-
Support iterative refinement of mappings based on client feedback.
Client & Internal Collaboration
-
Participate in discovery meetings with registry staff to understand legacy workflows and field usage.

Document decisions, anomalies, and special-case logic in migration artifacts.

Communicate progress, blockers, and validation findings to the Manager of Clinical Registry Data Integrations & Migrations.
Leadership & Collaboration

Serve as a technical lead on high?visibility migration projects, coordinating work across internal and client teams.

Mentor and support clinical registry migration specialists, providing code reviews, technical guidance, and best practices.

Provide feedback to product and engineering on platform features that improve migration scalability and quality.
Experience and Skills:
About YOU!

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
-
7+ years of experience in data engineering, data migration, or ETL development, ideally within healthcare, life sciences, or another regulated data domain.
-
Strong proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language commonly used for ETL (e.g., Python, R, or similar), and solid SQL skills.

Experience working with structured datasets: CSV, Excel, JSON, XML.

Hands?on experience with schema design, data modeling concepts, and data validation frameworks.
-
Strong attention to detail when working with detailed transformation rules and data-mapping logic with clinical or coded data.
-
Comfort with repetitive data cleaning, normalization, and validation tasks.
-
Strong communication skills and the ability to document findings clearly and interact with clients.

Experience with XSLT and/or Python
-
This role requires strong data engineering skills, deep familiarity with clinical registries, and hands?on experience building or operating ETL pipelines in a SaaS environment.
Preferred

Masters's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Familiarity with trauma, burn, or surgical registry concepts (fields, picklists, workflows).

Experience with TraumaBase, V5 Collector, ImageTrend, NTRACS, or equivalent registry systems.

Exposure to NTDS, TQIP, ITDX, state/regional registry requirements, or Burn/QCDR standards.

Experience with API-driven workflows or schema validation.

The salary range estimate below is inclusive of all departments, and offered salaries may vary within the given range between departments. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this level is $90K to $112K annualized and other competitive benefits.
