Senior Commercial General Liability (CGL) Claims Adjuster

Summary:

Atlantic Casualty Insurance Company (ACIC), an Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines carrier, is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial General Liability (CGL) Claims Adjuster to manage complex liability claims across multiple jurisdictions.

This role is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of moderate to highly complex CGL claims, including those involving bodily injury, premises liability, and litigation. The ideal candidate brings strong coverage analysis skills, commercial claims experience, and a carrier-based claims handling background.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage a caseload of commercial general liability (CGL) claims from inception through resolution
  • Analyze and interpret policy language, coverage, and liability in accordance with applicable state laws and E&S guidelines
  • Conduct thorough investigations, including liability determination, damages evaluation, and coverage assessment
  • Handle bodily injury, premises liability, and products liability claims, including complex and litigated matters
  • Establish and maintain appropriate loss and expense reserves
  • Manage claims in litigation, including coordination with defense counsel, experts, and vendors
  • Evaluate and negotiate settlements within assigned authority levels
  • Identify and pursue subrogation opportunities where applicable
  • Maintain accurate and timely claim file documentation and diary management
  • Oversee and direct the work of independent adjusters and appraisers when field investigation is required
  • Communicate effectively with insureds, claimants, attorneys, agents, and internal stakeholders
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced adjusters as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of direct Commercial General Liability (CGL) claims handling experience
  • Proven experience handling bodily injury and complex liability claims, including litigation
  • Strong knowledge of coverage analysis, policy interpretation, and liability evaluation
  • Experience managing claims within an insurance carrier environment strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with state laws and regulations governing liability claims
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate damages, negotiate settlements, and manage claim outcomes independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with claims management systems and standard business software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with an Excess & Surplus (E&S) or non-admitted carrier
  • Background handling complex, high-exposure, or specialty liability claims
  • Multi-state claims handling experience
  • Adjuster licensing in home state and ability to obtain non-resident licenses as needed
