Senior Contracts Engineer

Role Purpose

The Senior Contracts Engineer is responsible for managing all contractual and commercial aspects of projects during procurement and execution, ensuring that BI Group’s contractual position is protected and optimized.

Acting as the developer-side authority on contracts and claims, the role oversees contract administration, variation management, claims assessment, and dispute avoidance, ensuring that all commercial activities are aligned with project objectives and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Contract Administration

● Administer construction contracts in accordance with contract conditions (FIDIC or equivalent).

● Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations, timelines, and notice requirements.

● Interpret contract clauses and provide guidance to project teams.

● Maintain contract documentation, correspondence, and records.

2. Procurement & Contract Formation

● Support preparation of tender and contract documents including:

○ Conditions of contract

○ Particular conditions

○ Scope of works

● Participate in tender evaluation from contractual perspective.

● Identify contractual risks, gaps, and ambiguities in contractor submissions.

● Support negotiation and finalization of contract agreements.

3. Variations & Change Management

● Review and assess variation orders and change requests.

● Ensure all changes are:

○ Properly instructed

○ Commercially evaluated

○ Approved in line with governance procedures

● Maintain variation registers and cost impact tracking.

● Coordinate with Cost Engineers and Estimators to validate pricing.

4. Claims & Dispute Management

● Review and assess contractor claims (EOT, cost claims, disruption claims).

● Evaluate entitlement based on contract conditions and supporting documentation.

● Lead preparation of responses, recommendations, and negotiation strategies.

● Support dispute resolution processes and minimize escalation.

5. Commercial Risk Management

● Identify and manage contractual and commercial risks across projects.

● Provide early warnings on:

○ Potential claims

○ Delays

○ Contractual breaches

● Ensure BI Group’s contractual position is proactively protected.

6. Coordination with Project Teams

● Work closely with:

○ Project Managers

○ Planning Engineers

○ Cost Engineers

○ Consultants

● Ensure alignment between:

○ Contract conditions

○ Project execution

○ Commercial strategy

● Advise project teams on contractual implications of decisions.

7. Reporting & Governance

● Prepare regular contractual and commercial reports for management.

● Track:

○ Claims status

○ Variations

○ Contractual risks

● Ensure compliance with BI Group governance and approval processes.

● Support audits and internal reviews.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.

● 15+ years of experience in contract administration and commercial management.

● Strong experience in UAE construction projects (Dubai preferred).

● Experience with developers, consultants, or Tier-1 contractors.

Required Skills

● Strong expertise in FIDIC contracts and contract administration.

● Proven experience in claims analysis and dispute resolution.

● Strong understanding of construction processes and project lifecycle.

● Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.

● Ability to interpret complex contract clauses and apply them practically.

● Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Pay: From AED20,000.00 per month
